ANYONE ON CITALOPRAM ?

about ten days ago my doc took me off lexapro and put me on 20mg 1 times a day of citalopram. ive been on 10 mg twice daily of lexapro for a long time and its been working good. reasoning for taking me off of it was they couldn't give me samples anymore and i cant afford it...

so they put me on the citalopram. now i thought the last week or so the way ive been feeling was due to alot of stress and what not but after looking at the side effects of the new meds it makes me wonder if its that. heres some of the problems iam having:

head pressure/headache
dizziness,feel like iam floating.
muscle twitches and cramps
irritable and hostile

today i had a major panic attack and i "snapped" at two people.yelling, no hitting. im not like this. idk what to do. should i start taking my lexapro again and stop the citalopram ? ill find a way to pay for it. i just want ot feel semi normal again.

Hi

I was on Citalopram for over a year and was on the highest dosage and did not get any side effects. I think that when you swap medications it does cause problems with your system while your body adjusts to the new drug so I would give it a few weeks and then make a decision. My doctor said Citalopram is a good choice of antidepressant for people with anxiety, I hope you start to feel better soon.

Im on citalopram, just gone into my 4th week on it first week on 10mg then last 3 weeks 20mg, at first taking it i still had the anxiety and panic, but the last week i have felt a lot better, so please stick with it it may take a few weeks to get into your system, but if you have any worries please contact your doctor if you feel it is really dis agreeing with you.

Hi Twisted,

my boyfriend takes 20mg of citalopram daily for depression. he has not seen any side effects and thus far, seems to be doing well with it. However, everyone is different and each person responds differently to the same medication. If you are still feeling this way after having been on it for a few weeks, you should certainly check with your physician and talk to them about other options. the most important thing is for the medicine to be helping you, not causing you multiple side effects. good luck!

Hey twisted,

I have been taking 20mg Citaleopram for 2 years now i take 40mg when im really stressed. I notice some side effects when stoping or starting citaelopram. The main side effects for me were the sexual side effects and a really rare side effect which cause to twitch my head to one side occasionally.

When increasing my dose to 40mg a day i do tend to get abit more aggressive and highly strung but the feeling usually fades within a week or so. Mayb its just me being paranoid but i feel citalopram made me more impulsive. It really did work for me and keep the anxiety under control.
