Hello my name is Jennara. I'm 23. I have health anxiety and GAD and a lot of panic attacks. I have been trying to cope with this since I was a teenager. I go to the emerency room a lot and I feel bad about that. Thats a place for real emergencys, not panic attacks. Well I have this program that I got in the mail about 2 years ago to help me. This woman talks a lot in it about health anxiety and panic attacks. She has a doctor that works with her. They both stated that a lot of panic attack victims do end up in the emergency room. I just want to learn how to cope with out going. I have no friends to relate to! I'm looking for some on here. I hope I find a few. One would be nice. Well, nice to meet everyone!
Hi Jennara. Nice to meet you and hope I can be os some help to you. I to have had anxiety attacks for many many years now, about
every 5 hours and they can be a real pain. I have not had to much bother with Panic Attacks although they are similar as you know. Are you tacking any medication Jennara or have you seen anyone about
this as doctors normaly have no idea as to what to do!!. I to as you have been in many emergency units and they even know my name and get the coffee and biscuits out!!. You have to look on the lighter side of our problem sometimes!!. I have even been 3 times in intensive care as my heart rate the positives and negatives go off balance a little when I have a super dooper attack and each time they have given me a valium under the tongue and I have been flat out in the intensive care unit for between 8 to 12 hours with all the tests coming back OK and the heart specialist scratching his head at the bottom of the bed saying "Kevin" we can't find anything wrong with you. I'm sure you know what I mean
. I am taking a small about
of medication 5MG's every 6 hours which does give some relief. OK, how to cope with it, this is the 64.000$ question. What I do is I always have at hand a very cold bottle of water and I mean cold, if I feel the sensation of an attack, sweating, faster heart rate, pains in the left arm, chest, short of breath, dizzy, can't remember things, feel sick...... IE: the NORM, I drink a large amout of cold water this helps cool down the blood vessels in the chest and takes away some of the effects. I also take a cold shower and let the shower run into my face. When you have an anxiety attack the blood vessels in you body and nerves become overworked which cuases us to sweat and have pains in aour arms etc all due to this, so I find a shower helps get my body down to normal. I keep away from coffee, chocolate, cheese, spicy food....spices can have a big effect, no tea only decaf, I smoke but no one is taking my fags away
Another thing that helps me anyway is get up early, shower in coldish water and if you live near a beach take an early moring walk bear footed along the shoreline, no people as it's early,
open space, soothing water may sound crazy but these things do help. Anyway I am here as are all the other loving members to help you as much as we can. As Always I will say this are MY remidies and should not be taken as medical advice, for that you need to see a doctor OK. Take care and be kind to yourself. Kevin
