Started Effexor XR today

Even though I have taken Effexor before, I was nervous to start it again.  Stupid, huh?  Only difference this time is that I wasn't on any SSRI's whereas last time, I was and was switched from it to the Effexor XR.  Hopefully I won't have any (or many side effects) while my body adjusts the to Effexor again.  I will keep you posted, and please say a little prayer that I do well on it again!  Thanks!

Hi

I take Effexor 225mg for GAD and depression i hope this medication works well for you and you dont suffer many side effects.

Thank you all so very much for your encouraging words.  Grizzly, I also read what you are going through starting your Prozac.  We can get through this together, okay??  I had some mild side effects today, but I am winning this battle... yeah

Thanks and yes it helps to know others are experiencing similar to myself. I'm doing ok today, that means better than yesterday. I've used Prozac before and it worked well but i don't remember these terrible side effects of worse anxiety than ever, so i just have to hang in there. I'm thought stopping if i find myself going down the 'it's never going to get better' track. I'm also planning my day so that I have things to do. I'm trying not to think about next week when I'll be home alone with my beloved parents who are visiting. Please stay in contact xx

Hi.  I wish you all the luck in the world with Effexor.  It gave me my life back.  The only side effects I get is a little weight gain and sweating more in the summer.  It took me a couple of weeks to get over the initial side effects (slight nausea and a bit shaky) so stick with it.  I want to stay on it all my life.... and I probably will.

I am hoping and praying that this is the med for you this time around and that you will do well on it. Try to accept that you may have some tough bumps in the road getting onto the med but that it will be ok.

I have a good feeling about this med for you.

Thank you Kitt and Jan...today is my 2nd day on it...of course I am having some increased anxiety but functioning well.  I have a little discomfort in my chest, but I read about the side effects and I think it is in my head or I am just thinking I am noticing it...if that makes sense!!  A little more tired than usual and want to nap, but I took a 4 hour nap with my 2 year old yesterday and was up until 2 am this morning!  Ugh. 

In the meantime, I am keeping busy, had a Foot Doctor appointment this morning and see my PCP this afternoon as I am not confident in my OB/GYN results saying that I DO NOT have a bladder, kidney or Urinary Tract Infection...can you believe they told me they spilled most of my sample but the results that showed from the little they had left showed negative results!?  Incompetent and I am upset!!  Anyway, been one of those days and I do know my body so off to the PCP for my 2nd opinion!  Sick of Doctors appointments already!

I can't wait for the Effexor to fully kick in and kick the anxiety to the curb!!!  tongue

I took Effexor XR for two years. I recall that when I started it, I had pretty icky side effects for the first week. The first 3-4 days were the worst. I didn't sleep, felt jittery, had no appetite and experienced diarrhea and headaches. It got better though, as I said, within a week. Hang in there! I just started Celexa and am going through the same icky transition phase. It's not as bad as the Effexor was for me, but it is still tough.

Effexor also gave me back my life. In 2006 I had very severe depression and anxiety and was on 225mg. I am now on 37.5mg and am hoping to come off it altogether before my weding in October. I feel so much better now and at one point, I truly didn't think I would. If it wasn't for this medication, I wouldn't have been able to feel better and therefor start to help myself. Medication is a massive part of recovery but you also should try exercise, yoga, pilates, relaxation, good diet when you start to feel the medication is starting to work as this can also be a huge benefit. Take care and keep us updated on your progress.
