anyone taking ativan instead of xanax for their anxiety panic

Hi..i was on ativan for 6 years and it stopped working for me. My dr put me on xanax and it has helped alot longer than the ativan did..I have been on it for 8 years now. To me they work about the same, but for some reason i started having bad panic and anxiety attacks, so they changed it and also put me on a antidepressant. But to answer your question, i think drs just prescribe it more for the anxiety and panic rather than the ativan

Hello, welcome.  Is Ativan to prevent the attacks and therefore you do not vomit?  How about an antiemetic when yor start to feel an anxiety attack such as Zofran?

thanks for the answers .my md had given me ativan years ago when i had my first panic episodes and anxiety that lasted for months it helped. now im seeing a pyschiatrist who wants xanax instead for me as she said it is more for anxiety and does not have the sedative effects. but so far i think ativan helps more it just makes you more tired and takes longer to work and drowsy all next day. xanax i have not noticed much effect from other than i think im afraid of the new med so it seems to make me worse. im just a basket case again this whole thing startd up 6 weeks agao and i cant get relief i feel like im not able to take much more and knowing that no one can really stop this or cure it makes me worse thinking its going to consume me and i will never feel the same. are there really people who just have flare ups and then good years ahead? it was like that for me as this happened 7 years ago then i somehow was ok till now now it seems it wont stop. im so scared and aware of it every minute.

I have taken Ativan, Klonopin and Xanax. They all worked great for anxiety. Ativan is the one I take now as needed.
