I use Valium and at one time I used it daily at high doses but now I am done to 2 mgs as needed for anxiety.

hello. ive been taking xanax , just as needed for anxiety and panic attacks. i only took probably 2-3 2mg. bars a week, or less. lately ive been having a really tough time with my bi-polar and anxiety and depression. my psych, who is not the dr. who prescribed this for me, said she wanted me to stop taking it at all. she said she wished it had never been put on the market. she said that all it does is mask the problem for a short time. then when the med. wears off, you still have the problem and you probably feel worse for using a depressant. i must say, even though i (DID NOT) want to give up the xanax entirely, i agree with her. what she said has been exactly my experience. ive only been off 1 week. it was a very tough week as my bi-polar was acting up and i had a few bad days. i wanted to reach for my xanax but i had promised i wouldnt. well i got through the week without it. im happy about that but i do have some xanax left over and i cant promise ill never take it again, but i will try to deal with my problems without it. you need to do whats best for you, of course, in conjunction with your dr. i hope you will feel better, whatever that may entail.

I take between .75 and 1.25 of Xanax daily along with Buspar.  This works very well for me right now.  My PDoc says if it works take it.  My regular MD is not very happy that I am still on Xanax but I use to take 3+ mgs a day and have worked my way down without too much discomfort.  I am working to get to the point where I cn use it on an as needed basis only.  There was a time when I would have never thought that was possible but the Buspar has helped alot just the short time I have been on it.  Xanax is great but you have to be very careful, too easy to keep going up and up etc.
