So I had to go back to the doctor today after taking my Zoloft and experiencing bad side effects. My doctor said I was in a 2% of people who have certain bad reactions to the medication.


So he decided it probably wouldn't be wise to put me on another SSRI medication because I might have a similar experience. He also just isn't a big fan of putting people on anti-depressants and said that I am not experiencing as much depression as I am anxiety.



So he decided to put me on a blood pressure medication at a low dosage that's proven to help with anxiety. He said it mainly helps with panic attacks, but that it should help all my symptoms.



It's called Propranolol which is substituted for Inderal or Inderal la. He said that there aren't near as many serious side effects and is safe for young adults and children. All he said is if I get light headed or pass out to call him. My dosage is 60mg once a day before bed.



I'm also going to wait just a few days before taking it for the first time to make sure it and the Zoloft don't interact badly with one another.

Has anyone else ever been put on this for anxiety? I'm doing research, but I'd like to hear some person experiences if possible. [img]/community/emoticons/smile.gif[/img]

Inderal is a Beta Blocker and is prescribed for people with performance anxiety. Often people who have to speak or perform in front of an audience use this medication.

It should be safe to start to take it now. Try hard not to over think your worries and just stay in the moment.

I've been put on Inderal myself for anxiety symptoms. I think it works by reduces the amount of norepinephrine in the body which has been linked to anxiety. It didnt' personally seem to help me but may be I wasn't on it for long enough. I know of a few others it did help though. You have to find out what works for you.

Good for you Paige, I am glad to read your going to start it and I think you will do well on the med. Just remember to stay in the moment and try not to over think the med. Just start your dose and go on with your day.

Paige I wanted to wish you good luck with this med, but I agree with Kitt you should start this med now, instead of waiting. It will not cause any problems mixing with the Zoloft. Good luck!

My sister in a nurse practitioner and she said she wished my pdoc would put me on a beta blocker. She thought it would help my anxiety alot. He never would do that. So this beta blocker could really help you and I hope it does!

I've just come off propanolol for anxiety issues, i was on them for six months and was on 80mg....did help a lot -

Matt,

Are you on anything now to take the place of the Inderal? That is a big dose of Inderal. I take 20 mg once per day and have for years......................so far it serves me well together with my other meds.
