Missed 1 dose of clonazepam, severe withdrawal!!!

Somebody please HELP ME!!!!!!!

Thursday night I missed one dose of my clonazepam.  I take 2 mgs a day.  One at night and one in the am.  And I missed the night dose.  Well by mid morning yesterday (Friday), I in such a PANIC!!!!  I felt so stiff like I couldnt move!  I had severe aggitation and my heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest!  All through out the day I had high bp and heart rate. 

My doc has me prescribed 2mgs in the am and 2 in the pm.  I only take 1 in the am and 1 in the pm though bc its so addictive and I'd rather come off it than go up on it!  I get addicted to things very easy!  I used to be an alcoholic and I never saw the addiction comming!  I didnt crave it I just became dependant on it until I COULDNT stop taking it bc of the severe withdrawal!

Its very obvious that I'm very dependent on the clonazepam!  I missed only one dose and then the next day I kept having to take another half and another half and another half until I had taken 4 mgs.  I felt like I was going to die all day!  I read that being on this med for more than a few months can produce severe dependence like this!

Has anyone ever missed a single dose and this happen to them?

You are dependent on it Jennara, but its obvious that it is helping you. Do you want to suffer with all day anxiety all the time, or do you want to get on and enjoy life while having to take a medication. Remember diabetics have to take their insulin, and someone with anxiety needs to take their meds too.

By the way if you want to stop the medication, don't do it on your own. Have your doctor work out a good weaning schedule. But as stated above, I think you need medication. JMHO

It does sound to me like you are dependent on the drug and you panic when you forget to take it because you are worrying about the what ifs? You seem to be thinking you will surely have withdrawal sx and panic if you miss a dose.



The 1/2 life of clonazepam is 18-50 hours. Missing one dose should not physicially throw you into withdrawal as your next dose was first thing in the morning.



I agree with Nanners, if you need to take your med then do it without fear and live in the moment not in constant anxiety.



If you want to stop the medicine do talk with your physician and do so safely.

Well, everyone's different. When I miss a dose, the next day I definitely notice it but definitely not to the degree you describe. Or anything close to that really. My anxiety is just a little worse. Of course I'm not a doctor but I really don't think it's possible for you to go into withdrawal that quickly. Not with Klonopin.

But if you were at some point taking four mg/day as prescribed and then suddenly cut it in half, then missed a dose, I could see where that may cause you some problems for sure.

I hope you're feeling better now and I agree that if you do want to stop taking the Klonopin, it's definitely something a doctor should supervise.

I had an addiction to benzos, and Jen, I strongly urge you to find another medication to help with your anxiety. My dosage just kept increasing and it got to the point where I was up to 8 mg a day. The withdrawl was one of the worst things I had ever experienced. I implore you, if you decide to go off the medication, consult your doctor, and as was suggested, wean yourself off. Never go cold-turkey. And if you can find something else that works for you, I say try it as soon as you can. The tolerance for the Benzos just gets higher and higher and it is highly addictive. I hope everything worked out for you.

..its taking the med as rx... what r they......i hv taken ativan sub when needed for yrs.....allpwed up to 3 1 mg and i certainly have not gone thru a wd like u posted with only missing one dose..plus on valium 10 mg bid..yet i dont take the amount if i dont need it ...of either drug,,,and no i am not a zombie or sleep all the time,,,i am a sober alcoholic since 1979 when my hubby was killed in car accident......like i posted above i am sure it was more of a panic emotionally charged thing u went thru......these meds are needed by many and they give them some quality of life.....i do hope you can calm down now but taking the amount you did will now once again lv you short wont it........just my thoughts here..lol...lyn/ / and will yr doc fill rx early..hv you thought of that......here alot of our benzos are classed as narcotics si it isnt too often a lot of them get refilled early// and the FDA watches for narcotics ..i am in Ontario

I Think there are so many meds out there that ppl; can become addicted too ...i know i was taking way too many pain meds i have stopped morphine and percoceys and that was one hades of a wd experience..i will never touch it again....when u run out lay on couch talk to self breath deep n tell self its okay you will make it.....i do believe you hv an addiction or dependency...i am not here to judge you hun only to suggest possible solutions........come here and post go for a walk enjoy nature even reading might help///you take care........lyn

Well, all the benzodiazepines are different. And people are different. If you take a lot of short-acting benzos there's a good chance of addiction and the need to increase the dose for it to stay effective, but that doesn't happen to every single person. Nobody knows why.

I have been on Klonopin for four years at the minimum recommended dose for anxiety and have never felt the need to increase it.
