Accupuncture for Anxiety-

Has anyone here tried accupuncture for treatment of anxiety, or any other illness, with any degree of success?

I'm considering giving it a try. idea I figure anything that's been around 5,000 years must have some validity to it! wink I found a Chinese MD who has been practicing accupunture for 40 years & people rave about him!

Problem is in PA. we are one of the rare states where it is not coverered by medical insurance- It is in NY, NJ and Delaware. Too bad, it can be a bit expensive.

Hope I can hear some "success" stories- Robert

Good morning !

Anxiety treatments can be classified into two categories:
1. Symptom relief – treatments solely focused on providing symptom relief (full or partial).

2. Addressing the core causes of anxiety – identifying and successfully addressing the underlying core issues that cause an anxiety condition. Once these core factors have been addressed, anxiety and its symptoms disappear.

NOTE: Symptom relief treatments only affect the symptoms. They SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS ANXIETY CURES, since they don't address the real problems that cause anxiety.

Treatments that address the core causes of anxiety do cure anxiety conditions. When the root problems are successfully addressed, the problem and its symptoms disappear.

Can acupuncture provide anxiety symptom relief? Yes, it does for some. However please note that it is a symptoms relief and would be best utilized with therapy.

Hi Wotan,

I tried accupuncture for anxiety a few years ago and it did help with immediate "brain chatter" ie: it calmed my thoughts. Long term a holistic approach has helped me best with anxiety with a combination of counselling, self-talk, etc along with treatments like accupuncture. There is nothing to lose so if you aren't needle-phobic give it a go! Goodluck and I wish you well,
