Hello all,  I am very new to this site and to my problem.  On January 6th 2010 I had a panic attack while in the shower.  For some strange reason I knew it was a panic attack.  As a matter of fact when I got out of the shower (like in 3 minutes) I texted my sister saying "I just had a major panic attack in the shower".  Not quite sure how I knew it but I did!  I freaked myself out so much, on my way to work (how dumb of me to drive in the state of mind I was in) I had going on in my mind the "what ifs".  I was just awful, I called my sister and asked her if she could take me to the hospital.  She did and the only way I could discribe it was the my chest hurt.  So of course they run an ekg, chest xray and some kind of dye testing thing-a-magger.  All came back good!!  The ER Doctor told me to follow up with my primary Doctor, and I did she gave .25 Zanax.  Then the following weekend I ended up back at the ER thinking I had some dumb infection because my body inside was burning.  Get to the ER and same old thing Doctor says there is nothing wrong, ran blood work and urine test.  He is about to let me go and I get so angry, and I say "look there should be no reason why my chest is pounding so hard"!  He gave me an Antivan and within about 20 minutes I finally feel relaxed.  He tells me to follow up with my Doctor and I do.  She put me on 20 mg of Citalopram HBR and 1 mg of Antivan.  It took awhile for the Citalopram to finally kick in, and I only take the Antivan when needed.  I still have thoughts going threw my mind, I have read books on anxiety and that has helped a great deal.  I still feel a little panicky at times.  I still have chest aches, not all the time just enough for me to know I have a chest.  I still think about having a panic attack and that scares me to death.  I only had 1 and that was enough!!  Ok so I sorta babbled about nothing really I guess, just wanted to babble.

Hey and welcome!! This is the same exact thing that happend to me but I didn't know that I was having a panic attack...I didn't even know what was wrong with me and why my chest kept hurting and i was always feeling like i was going to die...Finally I had a conversation with my aunt and she has the same problems and she told me what it was... Panic Attacks are the scariest thing ever though i do know that!! thats great that you went to the dr. and got some meds for it..i'm on .5 mg xanax and 10mg lexapro...and it helps a whole lot!! but yes this is a very scary thing to go through...i know exactly how you feel!! ((HUGS)) and hope you start feeling even better girl!! :)

Thanks Haybugsmommy!  I have good and bad days its nice to know when your not alone.  The meds have helped and I try to keep busy to keep mind off of it.  I feel bad for my husband I feel like I have been neglecting him.  Sometimes he understands and sometimes he doesn't.  Heck I don't even understand so how would I expect him too?

I have had underlying anxiety for years, but never panic.  Then, about 2 years ago out of nowhere, I had a panic attack on the highway, for no reason.  Then I started having panic attacks when speaking in front of my Rotary Club, or giving sales presentations for my job.  Seeing that I cannot lose my job, I went to my doctor.  He gave me Klonopin because I refuse to go on anything I have to take daily.  The problem is, I have had to take the Klonopin no less the 3 days a week, but usually 5.  It is saving my job, but it is thinning my hair.  The permanent drugs my doctor wants to put me on all say they could cause irreversable hair thinning in some people.  So I assume if I'm having that reacation to Klonopin, I am likely to have it on the other drugs as well.  I've had several panic attacks on the highway, so I have avoided it for 9 months now.  Very difficult for my job, because I travel to appointments an hour away to corporate headquarters a few times a month.  I'm embarrassed because when it's my turn to drive, I have a co-worker drive my car on the interstate.  I've seen a therapist, but after 15 sessions I was not making progress,nothing cognitive was happening, no concrete advice or activities were given to help me over come the things that trigger the panic.  I also have it out of the blue sometimes for no reason.  Any one experience the hair loss issues?

The inside of your body feeling as though it's burning is common. I still get it occasionally. I guess it's because when you're panicking your body temperature goes up.

You may want to read through our resource thread at the top of this forum. The sx of A & P are listed as well as a link to a site that has all the info you would want on medications used for mental health disorders.

Also do feel comfortable starting a thread of your own as the members love to meet the new members and that way more people will read and respond to your post.

Hello, I think I am having a relaspe and feeling really anxious, I have been taking medicine for 10 years or more. I am trying to increase my dose, but doesn't seemed to be working.  I went to the doctors and did bloodwork.  I have terrible symptoms,  Nausea

gas, head feel tingly and gas, mostly strange sensations in my head, and then makes me nausead.

Anybody else
