hi. I am suffering from a strange condition lately. When im at work, i feel uncomfortable. My chest hurts and i cant breathe normally. And when im in a public place, i feel uncomfortable. it seems that the world is closing on me. I have a choking sensation every time i have this attack. I had my ECG and blood tests, thanks God, the results are ok. I am about to resign from work coz i can no longer bear to suffer everyday at work. When im at home, i feel fine. so weird, isnt it? Pls help me better understand my condition. Thanks.

Welcome to healingwell, Sorry to hear you are having a hard time at the moment. Sounds like you could be suffering social anxiety I suffer with this and also find it hard in social situations I would recommend you raise your concerns with your doctor and chat through how you are feeling at the moment. If it is anxiety there are a number of things which can help such as medication, talk therapies and also support forums like this one were you can get support from others who can relate to what you are going through. Anxiety affects every body and to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder your anxiety needs to be such that it affects your day to day life and dictates how you lead your life so do go and talk with your doctor. You are not alone and we are all hear to support you so do please let us know how you are getting on you are in good company and we care. I hope things start to improve for you soon Marj.

Great points by Ben and I agree you could be having anticipatory anxiety. Perhaps you would benefit from therapy as I know it has helped me and many others. Please do talk with your physician about options you have available to you in your area.

I agree with all of the above. But... I am wondering if it is wise to quit your job. I think it might be better to meet with a therapist and get on to some type of medication, instead of letting the anxiety win and trap you in your house. As our dear mod Stkitt always says, stay in the moment and remember you have anxiety, anxiety does NOT have you. Don't allow the anxiety to take over your life. Hugs!

I agree with the anticipatory anxiety as well ..and i also think you would be better off with a job n keeping self doing something each day..you are fighting the flight response imho and doing well....my worry would be you would become homebound as so many others have and that woul be a loss to others and to you .........we are here for you....lyn

thank you guys for your replies. i really appreciate it. il see a doctor next week. i never heard of anticipatory anxiety. is it different form social anxiety? lately i feel something uncomfortable in my throat. i already checked by an ENT, nothing was wrong with my throat. it feels like something you control yourself to cry, and there's pain in your throat. i duno exactly how to describe it, but that's how i feel it.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Sometimes that can cause symptoms like you are describing.

i always feel like something is in my throat and i saw a stomach doctor and i have GERD but i also have anxiety and the reflux gets my anxiety going when i keep swallowing and the problem is not going away... i saw an ent first and there was nothing wrong either... i hope you get answers soon
