Hi Mike,
Welcome to HealingWell. I am glad you found us. Congratulations on being sober for over a year now.
If I understand you correctly, you were drinking and using drugs, then your gf gave you a Lexapro 10 mg just the one time. Alcohol and drugs can be a lethal combination. Wondering if your girlfriend is on Lexapro per her Dr. on a regular basis ? Please don't take anyone else's medication again. I know you proably don't need me to tell you that but I just wanted to bring it up. :)
CBT is great to help you learn how to deal with your Anxiety. I suspect your Dr. prescribed Xanax to help you deal with withdrawal from alcohol and it also is used for anxiety. How about AA, did you ever go to meetings ?
You have lots of fears and anxiety that still need to be dealt with. Is this something you can talk through with your therapist now or rework some of the CBT program that helps you deal with your thoughts and feelings ?
I have used the online program and I find myself going back to exercise when I start falling into old thought patterns.
As far as anxiety remember it is a disorder, not who you are. I believe you are strong and will learn how to work through your issues. Give yourself plenty of time and do not beat yourself up for having a mental health issue.
Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.
I hope you stick with us as we are here to help and support you.
Kindly,
Kitt
