Feelings of intense anxiety.. am I going crazy?

I feel like I'm going insane. Two weeks on 10 mgs of lexapro and I have intense feelings and urges where I feel a surge of restlessness in my arms and legs. Is this anxiety? I've never felt anything like it but I feel like I'm going crazy. It's very frustrating.

Whenever I take an Ativan to calm down it feels like the surges get more intense. My shrink switched me to klonopin yesterday. What should I do? Am I going crazy?

Ugh I should have never gotten off lexapro a year ago. I was totally normal before and now I don't want to be around people, not even my own daughter. Help.

T.G., I am not knowledgable about medications, but you are not going crazy, just adjusting to your dosage. I have heard that even something that previously worked for you, can change, and loose it's effectivness. Talk to your dr. about it and give it time. If you are feeling edgy around people, give yourself some space. With your daughter, choose a quiet, calming activity to enjoy together that won't stress you out (ie, coloring, watching a DVD or reading)

Good Morning my friend and I am so sorry to hear you are having problems. Let me see if I can help you. smile All of the Antidepressants come with side effects when getting onto them, sometimes while taking the medications and also when stopping the medication. With the help of your Dr. you should be able to make it through and if this medication is causing your extreme symptoms there are many more available. Each person reacts to medications in their own way.

I went through many of the ADs before I finally decided I needed to stick with one and get through the side effects of starting a new mediation.

I am going to post a link for you which I have found helpful in learning about the different medications. Remember this is just FYI and nothing is written in stone.

HI,

I am having a similar experience. i started on Lexapro about a week in a half ago and felt some escalated anxiety. My Dr feels that is why i am on the medication and its not stemming from the medication. Im not sure which one it is. In any event, i figure i'll give it another week and see how i am feeling. Stick with it.  You always get increased anxiety at the beginning of these meds, usually for about two weeks.  It is just your body adjusting and then it will magically disappear and you will feel normal again.... bliss.

Well my shrink upped my Buspar from 45 to 60 mgs a day and she put me on Klonopin instead of ativan.

The klonopin seems to help a lot more than the ativan.  I'm not sure about the lexapro if it's helping or not but time will tell I guess.

I just wish I had never gotten off lexapro in the first place a year ago.  I was totally normal for years with the occasional panic attack (once every couple of weeks or so) and now I've receded so far back that it's hard to even go shopping or go to my mother-in-law's house to pick up my daughter.

I was on klonopin today though and managed to make it on the highway to mother-in-law's house without much anxiety so that was nice.  I felt just relaxed and not freaking out like I normally do.  It's a relief to feel some normalcy but in the back of my mind I wonder how tomorrow will be or the next day or the next day.  It's just so up and down and I just want to be able to function and feel happy and enjoy life without extreme anxiety and panic.

Thank you for all your kind replies.  They are extremely helpful.  Sometimes I feel so alone in all this but you all feel like my family.

Hi, I hope you are feeling better. I just had to throw this in, I have never taken lexapro and I do understand that everyone is different, but my doc put me on klonopin years ago, and it helps me more than anything else. Please give it some time, it wont make you more nervous, just maybe sleepy until you get used to it. My best wishes are with you.....
