I did a very slow wean off of 40 mg of Valium with the very close supervision of my Pdoc. I had no withdrawl sx using this method.
IMHO, there is absolutely no doubt that anyone withdrawing from long-term benzodiazepines must reduce the dosage slowly. Abrupt or over-rapid withdrawal, especially from high dosage, can give rise to severe symptoms (convulsions, psychotic reactions, acute anxiety states) and may increase the risk of protracted withdrawal symptoms .
The precise rate of withdrawal is an individual matter. It took me about 26 weeks - I know that sounds like a very long time but it worked for me.
Keep on talking with us as we are here to provide support and caring to you.
Kindly,
Kitt
