nitrofurantoin (macrobid)???

This is what I've been prescribed to take for my urinary tract infection. I was just wondering if anyone can remember taking this and if it makes them sick? I'm going to take it. My UTI is so bad, I need to and I will! I'm just wondering...

By the way, I saw the baby on the ultra sound yesterday. They said it is exactly 6 weeks and 4 days. Thats 5 days now. But its got a healthy heart beat and they say, so far, everything is great!

hi. when,I was pregnant with my now 2 1/2 yr old daughter, I was on macrobid. in fact, I was on it for five straight months! I didnt have normal UTI symptoms, but there would be signs of it in my urine every visit. so they never took me off of it.
I did well with it. no symptoms from the meds. and I gave birth to a healthy 7 lb 6 oz baby at 41 weeks.:)

Congratulations on seeing your beautiful baby! It's too early to tell if it'a a boy or a girl right? It's been a long time (almost 10 yrs.) since I was pregnant with my youngest. Are you going to find out if you can? I did with both, but then I also peek at my Christmas presents...I can't let anything be a suprise!;)

As far as the Macrobid, I have been on it many times. In my twenties and up to my early thirties, I had reocurring UTI's. I can't remember having any adverse reations to this a.b. (-in fact I've only had one reaction to an a.b. and that was a super strong variety for an ear infection-and even then just some diarrhea) So no worries, it's way more important to get rid of the UTI!!!

Be sure and take it with food or milk if so directed, so it won't bother your stomach and you'll be fine. Also ask your OB if after you finish your course, if it's safe for you to use a probiotic. Probiotics such as kiefer, Yalkut, or acidophilus help replenish the good bacteria in the gastrointestinal system. (antibiotics kill the bad bacteria-yeah!, but also the beneficial bacteria too-boo!)

Ugh, did you have to say... milk blah!!!! This sickness really sucks!!! But happy to have a healthy baby! Just cant wait until the second trimester! Not so much worry about miscarriage!

No I have to wait until I'm 5 months along before I can find out but oh yes, I'll be finding out as soon as possible!!!!!

Ok I'll eat something and take the macrobid. I feel better about it now. One time I took an antibiotic and I got sooooooo sick and it lasted 2 days actually!!! Very weird!!!!

Oh, baby pictures, how great and I am sure you are pleased to know everything is OK.

Macrobid - take this medication by mouth with food was great advice. 

Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection. Always call you Dr. if you feeling you are having a reaction to any medication.

I also had to take it when I during my first pregnancy for a UTI...everything went good and it cleared up...I hate taking new meds so I can understand your hesitation. Im glad that everything is going great with the baby!!

With macrobid also make sure you are drinking at least a full glass of water everytime you take it. That could cause you to have unwanted side effects. Also remember to wear SPF if you are in the sun often cause it will make you more sensitive to the sun. Generally though, it has very limited side effects and works the best probably for UTI's for the majority of people. At our pharmacy we sale it all the time.

Try eating and drinking a full glass of water with it and the side effects should subside. If you are really concered about the side effects talk to your doctor or one of the nurses :)

I'm 13 weeks preg & just finishing up a dose of Macrobid for a mild UTI, thankfully I caught it early and pushed for them to send out the sample even though they didnt see anything that indicated it in the dip test they do in the office. I only got sick one time after taking it and that could easily be chalked up to morning sickness...also it makes me pee neon yellow lol I do make sure to take it after a full meal each time to prevent nausea. Good luck with your preg...hang in there!
