Hi All

I don't know about you guys but listening to music is something I do a lot. I find that when I listen to music it gives me some time off from my anxiety and also makes me smile. For decades research has shown that listening to music alleviates anxiety and depression, enhances mood, and can increase cognitive functioning.

I had noticed on the depression forum that they have a music related thread and spoke with S.C and thought it would be good to start one here.

The aim is to have a thread were you can come and post on any music related topic e.g Your favorite bands, favorite lyric etc etc. I know that this is off topic but feel it would be a good idea as music can bring people together but it not aimed to take away from the importance of this great forum and as always we are here to help each other with anxiety.

David Bowie...I have loved him forever...genius, awesome voice, consantly reinventing himself and his music, two different colored eyes for crying out loud!

And the Flight of the Concords spoof on him is hilarious...it's really more of a tribute (youtube it if you get a chance)

I like your taste in music, Hibee. It's really too bad that addiction finished off the Stone Roses. Their first record makes Oasis look like NSync or something.

My favorite record right now is "Brothers" by The Black Keys. Incredible music. Favorite band of all time is The Pixies. "Debaser" is one of their songs. More favorites: Guided By Voices, Sonic Youth, Low, American Analog Set, Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Wilco, The White Stripes, Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, Macha, U2 (up to "Achtung Baby"), Swervedriver, Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Modest Mouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and a bunch of others.

I have almost everything Pink Floyd ever recorded. All albums, lots of live performances, demos...you name it. Same with the Beatles and Stones.

Geez, I have not been able to listen to music for a while. I don't have too many favorites. The Gyp-funk English band Molotov Cocktail featuring a lead singer who played Tonk in the Harry Potter movies. "Laid to rest" is their first internationally released video. The Decemberists, OK Go, Cake, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Old style: Barenaked Ladies , David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bonnie Raitt and Queen.

Hi All

Some great bands being mentioned. Debaser your right a real shame The Stone Roses split their debut album is said to be one off the best debuts of all time and I would have to agree, The Black Keys I also like very bluesy and I have seen the Pixies live a couple of times my fav song of theirs is Velouria. I am a big fan off all things Madchester and love the floyd also.

S.C I can imagine you at the front of a Bowie gig waving your lighter side to side lol. Flight of the Concords is very funny I like the episode were they go on tour.

I have two questions for you music lovers.

1) If you were to be stranded on a desert island what five albums would you take?

2) Who has produced the best bands, UK or USA?

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Nirvana - Nevermind
Inspiral Carpets - Beast Inside.

I think that the uk has had the best band's The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Queen need I say more.

Some great albums, The joshua tree is a classic I am not a fan of Bono though.

Lynyrd Skynyrd would be an other USA band Free Bird is one of my all time favorites and is the ring tone on my mobile phone. Its a tough one both countries have produced some great rock bands

When you consider that the UK isn't all that populous, it's amazing that they've put out so many legendary and innovative bands. Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Clash, and the list goes on and on and on. A lot of Americans who haven't made here went to the UK and blew up. Hendrix was one of those. Pixies were, too, in fact.

I would want to take an instrument not albums. Definitely a guitar or a piano. As to comparing US vs UK bands, what about all of the incredible mississippi blues, jazz rag, rhythm and blues, and bluegrass invented in the states? America has probably contributed more to the evolution of music than the UK.

America is a giant. I was saying that for their size, it's incredible how much of a contribution the UK has made in the area of Rock music.

America has and still does have some off the best bands out there. Elvis is someone we have not mentioned yet and he was very influential on both American bands and UK bands. I agree with you Debaser about the UK being a small nation but has seen some big bands who have had world wide success.

At the moment in the UK we have a lot of good bands such as The Gorillaz, The Streets & The Vaccines. A lot of American bands do seem to have better success here in the UK such as The Gossip, Scissor Sisters and Cage the Elephant so maybe we have different tastes?. I can not think of a UK band who has had more success in America than in the UK.

When it comes to Rap/Hip Hop America wins hands down, But I would say that French Hip Hop is really cool the French language seems to really suit Hip Hop check out a guy called Stress.

Hey,  I saw Elvis in Las Vegas last February and he was alive and well.

Kitt I saw on the news about the grand piano on that sandbank very strange. I always new Elvis was still alive and well he has been spotted all over the world banging out his greatest hits some more embarrassing than others lol.

Hey guys,

I love music. It really is therapeutic. When I'm feeling down, I'll play some songs on my guitar.

Btw does anyone know or remember the Irish 'boyband' Westlife? I came across their vids on youtube the other day and I realised how GOOD they are. I usually listen to ROCK so I'm actually quite surprised with myself. Lol.
