Hi a.a. and welcome! Many of the members here can relate to what you are going through-myslef included! I absolutely hate going to the doctor, yet struggle with health anxiety.
Kitt is right that therapy does help! I have had a great recovery through CBT. I still don't like going to do the medical tests when necessary, but I can do them without panic now!
In fact, I just had my yearly exam (gyn) and I was not thrilled, but I felt really calm, considering I was in the dr's office.
I know that it is hard to make yourself do this, but perhaps with some therapy, it would be tolerable. Another thing that helps me is to think of my loved ones. I may have trouble doing these things for me, but I owe it to my family to get check-ups, paps, mamograms, blood tests, ect.
I would suggest taking baby steps. Start with a phone consult with your doctor, then go in for a 'talking visit', eventually work up to a simple check-up. Depending on your age, you may not even need a lot of tests! Take a calming 'safe person' with you to your appointments. They will comfort you, and keep you accountable:) (I use to take my mother or sister, to keep me distracted, and keep me from leaving befire they called my name!)
You'll probably find that the fear of the unknown is actually a lot more frightening then what you are going to experience at your appointment! While you're there, talk to your dr. regarding your fears. He/She will know how to help!
Again welcome, and post anytime Let us know how you are doing soon:)
