paxil to lexapro switch?

Hi all,

I have been on 10mg of paxil for a loooooong time, I'm talking like 13 years. It really hasn't been working for me for a while but trying to get off it is too hard so I've just stayed on. Well, now I'm 44 and my hormones are in fluctuation and I really need something for anxiety/depression, so my psychiatrist advised that I could wean off the paxil while starting lexapro. I am very nervous about any med switch so was wondering if anyone had done this and what their experience was? Thanks!!

Welcome to HW this is a great forum. I take Lexapro and find it to be a good medication for anxiety. I have been on a lot of medication over the years and my advise would be to do the swap very slowly and keep in contact with your doctor let us know how you get on.

Hi I never taken paxil but I am on lexapro and had been for a few months and I stopped because I thought I was gaining weight (bad decision I know) but I recently went to the doctor and she added cymbalta so I'm back on lexapro and started wit cymbalta, it's been 3 days and I'm feeling a little numb. Lexapro seemed to work very fast for me after I got off celexa but celexa did nothing for me. Lexapro worked very well for me.

10mg lexapro going to 20 in a week or 2
30mg cymbalta
10 mg amytryptilline
1000 units vitamin D3
muscle relaxants
