Hi NHM and welcome! Many of us here can relate to your feelings regarding well being. Health anxiety is quite prevalent among us, myself included.
To over simplify it...anxiety/panic can cause one to (mainly) fear either losing one's mind, or one's physical health. It is easy to imagine why, when there is such a mix of both mental and physical symptoms going on at any given time!
I like you, tend to lean toward the catastophic thinking regarding my health and body's well being. Through therapy I have been relieved of this (and panic attacks!) but it will likely remain something that I will have to maintain working on, to stay well and keep under control.
When anxiety comes on, a physical symptom often accompanies it, thus triggering more worry and stress, causing a cycle that is hard to break. Therapy is highly effective in diffusing the anxious thoughts that arise, thus stopping the cycle before it can really get going.
Now for example, I might have a symptom, but I catch the nervous thought process that tries to follow, combat it with reasonable thinking, and it goes away:)
If you would like to know more about CBT (the therapy I've described) post back, of consult your G.P. for a referral. There is treatment for this, and you can feel good again! I went from daily debilitating A/P to getting my life back again!
Keep posting as it does help to not feel so alone. I hope that you find this a place of information, sharing and support...welcome aboard;)
