Going through oxycodone withdrawal two and a half months after my surgery. Still having code blue fears. Need to sleep with the light on. I am disappointed that I can only stay on my feet for about 90 minutes. Have gone to work three times but haven't made it more than a few hours.

A/P has become better. Maybe two attacks a week. I hope I can be stronger soon/

You have been through so much and the code blue makes me wonder if you have some PTSD going on now also.  Oxycodone withdrawal is a tough road as I have been there after using it for my herniated disc and withdrawing from it.

So good to see you back! Yes, I suspect I am having a bit of PTSD. I am working my way through it. The daymares no longer take over. I find myself blocking out some of the details so the memory doesn't become larger than life.
I take a sleeping pill at night to block the nightmares.
It helps that one of my neighbors is a surgeon and loves to ask me details about what I remember. It has been very interesting to hear about the surgeon's point of view. She has helped put some of the details in perspective.
I became conscious during the surgery and couldn't move anything but a muscle in my neck.
It was weird to listen to what was going on i.e. the conversations between the surgeon, anathesioloogist and the nurse. The nurse was the one who noticed that I was conscious.
I have two more surgeries scheduled. I am nervous about them but not too scared. I trust my surgeon. He is the the surgeon that all of my doctor friends would use of they needed colorectal surgery.

Can I check in even though I'm new? :-). I'll just start by saying I've been feeling good until about 2 hours ago when I had a bad panic attack and a friend had to drive me home. Hyperventilation.....racing heart, numb hands....the works...it was a doozy!! I'm looking at this as a little bump in the road that will pass. smilewinkgrin

Hello~

I'm checking in even though I am also relatively new and have only posted on the depression forum before. Anxiety is extremely high right now. It has been for the past few weeks. Saw my doctor today, and he thinks my serotonin levels might be too high from my antidepressants (I take 30mg Cymbalta and .5mg Abilify). So beginning tomorrow I'm decreasing Cymbalta to 20mg. In the meantime though, the diazepam and propanolol I take for anxiety don't seem to be helping at all. The anxiety is both physical and mental.

I also have Hashimoto's and take thyroid medications. The increase in anxiety I'm feeling might be due to my thyroid function. I'm hoping that it's due to it functioning better (as thyroid dysfunction can be a cause of depression and anxiety, among many other things) and that as my thyroid gets healthier, my need for antidepressant medication might decrease. I can hope, right?

Hello to both Irishangel and Gigi!  Of course you can check in here...we are glad that you did.  You are also invited to start your own thread of introduction anytime that you would like!

Irishangel, I too hope that this is just a temporary setback, and that you are back to feeling well again soon.  It happens to all of us, but the farther you get in your treatment, the panic will happen less frquently, and hopefully with less intensity. Keep talking to us and post anytime!

Gigi, I hope that you get good news regarding your medication change, and your thyroid fuction.  I like the way that you think positively!  That will go a long way in your recovery:)  Keep posting as well.

I find these forums and just knowing I'm not alone so helpful.
I'm trying to stay positive - it doesn't come naturally to me, but my mood isn't too depressed right now, so I'm trying to take advantage of that.

Yes I feel the same way! When I am in a tough situation, I actually 'visualize all of my H.W. family even though I have never met anyone in actuality!

As for the positive thinking/attitude, it really doesn't come naturally to me either. I don't consider myself a negative person, but being optimistic rather than what I consider 'realistic' is a challenge for me.

Something I learned through therapy though is that purposeful postive thinking (making yourself do it!) actually changes our outlook over time. Some research even suggests that it can change the brain's chemistry to some degree.

I find that affirmative/positive mantras really work for me. I tell myself the things that I need to hear/believe in any given situation. Even if I don't fully believe the statements that I'm repeating, I keep it up until the fear goes away...and it works!

I'm glad that you are finding this a helpful place, and hope that you continue to feel well:)

My one and only blood neice is in Minot, ND where the big flood is happening.

I cannot imagine the terror you felt waking up during surgery. It is good that you have your friend the surgeon - what a great support person to help you ! Do keep posting your feelings here in the forum and know you are family with all of us.

I am thrilled to see you have both posted here and everyone is welcome to post in this thread................. Scaredy Cat has shared some valuable info with you and she is right on.  I agree with her and I hope you both continue to post here in the A & P Forum.  I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
