Ribs,
Hello and welcome to HealingWell. I am glad you found us and I look forward to getting to know you better.
I suspect some of your issues may stem from changes in your situation - moving accross country and worrying about your children. I have a 29 year history of Anxiety and Depression. I did very well for the first 24 years with a few breaks and taking medication as well as seeing a therapist when things were not so good.
It feels to me that you may have some anticipatory anxiety.
Anticipatory anxiety is where a person experiences increased levels of anxiety by thinking about an event or situation in the future. The worries you experience specifically focus on what you think might happen, often with catastrophic predictions about the event.
To begin treating anticipatory anxiety, we must be able to admit that we cannot predict the future. Any scenario we are able to imagine is nothing more than speculation and fabrication.
When you find yourself wondering, "What if..." Stop! Take a deep breath; breathe in through the nose, hold the air in your lungs for a count of four, then slowly let the air out through the mouth. While you are doing this, consider the possibility that you are being unrealistic . Focus on positive or neutral outcomes. This is one of the ways I chase away the "what if" worries.
I would highly recommended you talk with your Pdoc re your specific concerns as you probably are already doing.
One of the best remedies for anxiety is to talk about it and I am glad you are talking with us - you are not alone.
Kindly,
Kitt
