Heart Palpitations???

So I am wondering if anyone else gets heart palpitations? It almost feels like a surge of energy that goes from the pit of your stomach right up into your heart, making it skip a few beats or speed up a few beats. I have had it happen a few time tonight, kinda freaks me out, which in turn puts me into a full on panic. I am at work so it makes it hard to do anything about it, like meds as I am at work and I don't get off until tomorrow morning at 8am, and I don't want to be on anything while I am here, I am trying my deep breathing and thinking about a better place to be other then work, but just right out of no where, BAM! Heart palpitation! scares the s**t out of me! I guess I just need comfort in knowing that I am not alone and that this is just another "symptom" of anxiety/panic attacks. I guess I just get comfort in reading things that I can relate to. :)

Oh Yes, these are so common, and almost always benign. That said, I can't tell you specifically what is going on, only your dr. can do that, so if this continues, make an appointment just to be on the safe side...but for now, let's assume that you are just experiencing one of the symptoms of anxiety.

Caffeine, stress, lack of sleep, certain foods, ect...have all been known to bring on the palps. Try to avoid these as much as possible. (yeah I know!)

Of course the more you focus on them, the more they seem to act up, so try saying a positive mantra while you do your breathing. Something like "This is a common sign of anxiety, and it will pass."

Try to relax, and call your dr. if things don't improve soon, but I bet they will:)

Thank you very much for the quick reply scaredycat, I have talked about these palpitations with my doctor and hehas listened to me heart and seems to think they are one of those symptoms of anxiety/panic. They usually go away, but it just takes me by suprise when they come and it is comforting to read other posts.
I have cut down my coffee to 1 a day and drinking caffeine free green tea. I feel much better now, I am relaxing watching tv and reading posts on here. Thanks a lot :)

Oh that's good to hear! Yes, even though we've been reassured by our dr.s, and these have happened before...you never quite get used to the feeling of having a flopping fish in your chest, right?

Keep up the breathing and postive mantras, and know that you will have a better day tomorrow:)
