What is the best antidepressant for anxiety?

does anyone have any feedback on this? 

i have tried lexapro and i thought i was going to flip out. 

anything other than an ssri that works well? 

or anyone have any experience with prozac?

This may sound weard but what kept me out
Of taking stuff like Valium or Xanax
Was bioidentical hormones. I sleep better
Now and that extreme anxiety stopped.
Not sure how old you are? I'm 56 now but
To tell you truth I wish I had started to have all my hormones
Including thyroid and cortisol checked when I was in
my thirties.

I wish I had that magic answer for you but I have tried over 12 of the meds over the past 29 years and my Pdoc feels I am medication resistant so I am working with my therapist and on my own.

Don't get me wrong there was a long period of many years where I did well on one drug without any major problems.  That drug help me for well over 20 years but then it pooped out and life circumstances interfered so I have learned to deal with my disorders without searching for anymore "new" drugs.

what are bioidentical hormones?

i am on synthroid for hypothyroid already and i had just had a big blood workup - only think that came back negative was my b12. now i'm being sent to a gastro.

i had some woman hormone level checked last year and it came out normal. i'm almost 42.

Hi

I have been on 6 different AD over the last few years. I would say Lexapro is the best one for anxiety, It is the strongest ssri hence 20mg in the maximum dose. I was on Prozac but did not get on with it I was on Mirtazapine which worked well was good for sleep

Bucci,I have had anxiety off and on for years but it has been really bad.I think it is because of my hormones I am 49 can you share a little bit of your health history about the hormones and what kind of testing you had.I really think my age and hormones are adding to the extreme anxiety and panic attacks and other body changes ...Thanks Full Moon

Hazelnut,

Everyone is so different with anti-depressants or any meds for that purpose. What works for one person may not work for another. I've tried a lot of different ones. I was on effexor ER for 5-years then I was weaned off a few months ago. My Psych Dr. believes that anti-depressants cause me Manic episodes. I know I felt better when I was on them.
