OK, I had quite the interesting day and was hoping to share some Earth shaking technique with everyone but it just didn't happen
I have to back up a few days....it all started Friday when hurricane Irene was headed for NC and it was headed for the most part, at my son, his wife and my grandson and of course, I was concerned....big time! I got up Saturday morning glued to the weather channel and calling my son like every other hour to get updates. They dealt with the winds for like 25 hours and I felt like I did too. I wondered in the beginning how my anxiety would be and to my surprise it was there but never really got intense.
OK, now fast forward to today. I got a phone call from one of my daughters who is going through something really tough and it began to bother me...enough that I felt my chest getting tight. Now I have said on here many times that I have anxiety and it's usually short lived....welllllll, NOT today I thought since I usually don't experience anxiety for long periods here was my chance to experiment and try not just all my techniques but maybe even discover a few new ones!
Well, all I can say is I did breath correctly through the hours of anxiety and did some stretching etc, etc...it never escalated into anything but edgy and tight chest, so I guess that was good, but I was really hoping to discover something new ....sorry, it didn't happen.
So I am left with this....a thought that crossed my mind. Do you know anyone who rants and raves and never has a positive word come out of their mouth...seems wound up all the time....yet doesn't suffer from anxiety or panic attacks....at least yet?
Weird how if you suffer from it, you look for ways to de-stress and relax and live better, but some are just spinning out of control and yet they never worry about their anxiety or have phobia's...nuttin!
Do you know people like this?....Do you ever think....whoaaa, some day that behavior my bite them in the butt?....just an observation....Anyway, If I learned anything today is...when you feel up tight, do your best to divert your thoughts ( I didn't do so well I guess)....use nice slow deep breath's and try to relax best you can. It may not make it go away quickly, but it might keep it from escalating into something worse. I hope everyone has a great week and keep baby stepping your way to a calmer you!........Benny
