anxious when sick - ugh

i just went to ergent care cause i've been sick since sat. night.  i went to pick up my son today and started feeling bad again.  my sinuses are messed up and i'm coughing and my ears are full.  so i went to ergent care - it took hours!  i had panic while i was in there and after.  my heartrate was 113.  the dr was talking about walking pnemonia going around and giving me an inhaler, etc.  i said i don't thinki need that - so igot a steroid shot for my allergies and an antibiotic.  i have bronchitis and sinus infection and lots of fluid behind ears. 

does anyone have higher heartrate when sick?  my heartrate is still like 100.  sucks. 

dr said it might be from decongestants i've been taking for 3 days but it didn't start until tonight.  weird.  the pharmacist said it can build up in your system.  think it's done this before too.  ugh

Hi HN, I am so sorry that you are still sick:( This has been a bad one! I get phobic about being sick too, but only with stomach stuff...but having a young one at home, and working with kids (parents bring them to class the day after throwing up all night WTH?!?) I am exposed quite a bit!  So I can relate to your 'sick anxiety'.

Yes, being ill takes its toll on the body and can raise the HR and BP temporarily. Antihistamines and decongestants can do the same. Once you are better, things should calm down for your system.

You were wise to avoid the inhaler. They can really make your heart race, and should only be used when absolutely needed IMO. I have never used one, but my sister has asthma, and her HR can really get going when she has to 'puff'.

I hope that you are able to take it easy and get better really soon. Let all but the necessary chores go until you are completely over your illnesses!

thanks scaredy cat. i know i said do i really need the inhaler? and he said well, i don't think mucinex works very well and we have found hte inhaler works better. i said doens't it speed up your hr though? he said yes but nothing you couldn't handle. ugh

yeah he said i have alot of fluid behind my ears so that's why i have been feeling dizzy, etc. hopefully the steroid shot will help!

not to get som esleep! i also have no pto at work right now either nad that's stressing me out. wish i could just take off without having to worry about not getting paid. our policy is horrible at work. we get no extra sick days.

Hi hazel, Sorry you've been unwell honey, it's hard to be sick and have to work too....I use an inhaler sometimes and it does speed up my heart rate too..but you shouldn't have to use it for too long I hope....try not to stress and relax when you get the chance..best wishes shannon
