This sounds like it would fall into the social anxiety category. It this a problem all of the time? Or do you find that it is always the case...I just ask because for me, it only used to happen occasionally.
I used to be shy, but as I have gotten older, I have become more confident, but this used to be a big deal. I was a blusher too, and would have to look away from direct eye contact sometimes when I was not feeling particularly confident, or if I was in a threatening situation.
I wish that I had recognized that I could have gotten some help for this sooner. I just eventually grew out if it, especially since my work and hobbies usually require me to be very outgoing...but in reality, I am still an introvert...just one who has learned to adjust to do the things that I need and want to do.
There are books on social anxiety that you could read and get some help from. I will post some titles for you here if you want to look into them.
I wish you the best with this...and btw...this is a great place, I hope that you will continue to post with us...we have great people here and you can get awesome support and meet others with similar struggles...no eye contact required;p
Talk to you soon,
Scaredy Cat
p.s. I put a link at the top of the page for you. A list of books on overcoming social anxiety.
