How does anxiety affect your memory?

I am sorry to read of your memory problems.  A thought crossed my mind when I read your post and I am going to post a link Dissociative Amnesia.

I have not experienced memory loss in the manner you have and I can only imagine how frightened you must be.  What is your Dr. offering you for therapy ?

I have much more mild problems with memory than you describe. I don't have anything close to 'amnesia', but my memory is severely affected by my anxiety/depression.

I forget that people called me, or forget what day it is, and sometimes I forget things like my age! I'm 'only' 23, so I find memory lapses like that to be very odd...but no one has really taken it too seriously. I tell my doctors, but they don't really seem to react to it. My friends and family all know how bad my memory is and sometimes joke about it, because they'll tell me something and I'll forget it moments later or I will forget that we had plans for a specific day, etc. They just brush it off and are like, 'Oh yeah, I forgot that it's YOU we're talking about, so I should have reminded you again.'

It's frustrating!

I hope you can find a good solution to this, because it sounds really severe in your case and it is impacting your life. Sometimes you may have to shop around for doctors and stress to each one how severe these memory lapses are.

Also, if you aren't already, I would make notes for everything--including what doctors say or do, etc. Put them places that you can easily see them. I do that sometimes with sticky notes, although my notes are probably a bit more mundane.

Memory has been hit very hard for me too. I also have to write everything down and set alarms on my phones for everything. I use the Covey Franklin planner because loss of memory made it tough to stay on track to even remember goals! I also was told by a geriatric memory specialist, a neighbor, that I needed to learn new things such as languages or math skill reviews to restimulate synaptic connections. It is slowly getting better but there are times when I cry because accessing memories is the foundation of being intelligent. Having no access to large parts of my memory makes me feel very stupid at times. You are not alone! Big hugs.
One of the advantages of this is that I cannot hold grudges or even remember a lot of conflicts. My memory loss has definitely made my marriage more romantic!
