Paxil.... Help please

I started taking Paxil a week ago today. I put it off for years but my life was(is) in shambles and I had to do something. Therapy itself just didn't work for me. This was a last resort. Please don't post about the withdrawals, etc etc. I'm "here"... not "there" ... Thank you... Here are my questions.... The first few days I took the pill I felt better (was this in my head)...I woke up actually wanting to accomplish something...It was easier to keep my head up and look at people. The 5th day or so I started to feel a little all over the place. Depressed...Then not, then depressed..Insomnia...etc.... Are these are normal things to go through at the start of treatment? There is WAY too much negativity online about Paxil to even start googling. I'll work myself up and stop taking the medication because of all that. So please let me know if what I am experiencing right now is normal. There is NO consistency right now at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I am on Paxil and have been for about 6 years now. I used to be on Zoloft for about 12 years, but it began to lose effectiveness after that long. I was on the maximum dose of Zoloft and now I have been put on the maximum dose of Paxil (80 mg) b/c my anxiety/depression is coming back some. My doctor just added Abilify and if it doesn't help, I'll be switched to another antidepressant. When I was switched to Paxil from Zoloft, they gradually decreased the zoloft dosage and added the Paxil increasingly. That stopped there from being any withdrawal problems. My doc says that if I need to be changed off of Paxil, he'll help me not have the withdrawal symptoms by doing similarly. So don't let people scare you with the big withdrawal scare tactics. We have to live in the here and now and let tomorrow worry about itself sometimes!
As to your reactions to the Paxil this early on, I wouldn't stress about it at this point. If you get to feeling really really bad, then by all means, call your doctor. But I have a feeling that your system is in an adjustment period right now and the fact that you had a good day could mean that it will work for you soon!

I have been on Paxil for 2 weeks and yes that is normal just give it time you will feel much better. I took it years ago and it made me feel great.took the anxiety and depression away.

Good Morning Here4MeAndU,

I just started on Effexor on Tuesday as I had been on a different AD for 3 months and it was not working at all - so finally my Pdoc agreed to let me go back to Effexor and start weaning from the other med.  I honestly felt so much better on Tuesday and if it was just in my head - a placebo effect - or whatever I took the feeling and enjoyed it.  I truly believe I just felt like I had hope again and my Dr. was listening to me. 

I agree, all the negative comments you read on the internet can scare you more then do you good sometimes. Your med sounds like it is working as it should.  For the next 4-6 weeks just be kind to yourself and remind yourself you started the new med and you will have ups and not so ups  cool  but that you are OK.

I hope you feel better, i have been on paxil for years, love it made me so much better.  I pray it works as well for you.

Thank you all so much for your sweet replies. It's very nice to have people be supportive. I am on day 10 of taking paxil in the morning. I really feel a difference already! I am hopeful it will only get better. The side effects have been minimal and I am just really really happy that I have decided to change my life before it was too late for that to be an option. I was able to wake up today with a smile on my face...Go to the grocery store, run errands, look at people in the eye, wish them a happy easter. These things were hard for me to do a week ago. So I feel very good today because I can feel the medication working. Thank you all again and I hope everyone is feeling good today. XO

That is really great news, and I am so happy for you!

Please keep posting, as I am sure that this is really encouraging to a lot of readers who are just starting out, and looking for hope.:)
