Thinking about Stopping Cymbalta - what can I expect?

I have been taking Cymbalta for maybe a year or so - not exactly sure how long. I am taking 30 mg 1x day.

I have been having some recent problems with Acid Reflux and am thinking that it is possible that the Cymbalta may be causing it. (I had the same problem with Prozac and had to go off of that because of that reason). Anyhow I have accidently missed doses several times and boy, when I miss it I get really dizzy. I can handle the dizziness I guess, but I'm wondering what else I have to look forward to and for how long...

I'm really nervous about this and will contact my doctor but I just cannot handle this acid reflux any longer.

Hi Carrie,

I understand how you feel as there are so many stories of people having severe withdrawal from the SSRI medications.  I have withdrawn from several without any major problems but made sure I was prepared for a bumpy ride should it have happened.

Hi Carrie,
I would definitely advise NOT stopping cold turkey; I ran out of them and didn't have them for I think three days - I was laughing one minute, crying the next - it was emotional hell! rolleyes

My doctor called me back last night and said to go ahead and just "stop". I'm only taking 30 Mg...how many were you taking?

Ugh...I'm not looking forward to this but if it is causing this reflux....I'm willing to do it.

Please let me know how many mg you were taking when you stopped.

I was taking 60mgs; I don't know what to tell you; I'm just going by my own experience and the experiences of some others. Is it possible for you to get a second opinion?

I am alos interested in the answers to this question. I took 30 mg for about 10 weeks and it seemed to stop working so I've been on 60 mg for 3 weeks and don't like the side effects so far. If they don't get better before my Dr. visit the 16th I want to stop.

Bronco: I went up to 60 mg in January and my anxiety went through the roof!!! OMG....I felt horrible horrible on 60mg. I am kind of wondering if the 60 mg triggered my acid reflux and with even going back to the 30mg, my body is seeing this drug as bad, bad, bad.... I don't know...we'll see. I'm my first day off of it. I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing....as a matter of fact, I'm going to start a new thread on this so others can see to in-case anyone is curious to how it is going.

Paxil did a number on my anxiety; I remember thinking that the anxiety was added to, not stopped at all. I've been taking my antidepressant before bed ; I sleep through the lightheaded feeling
I've been on different stomach meds too since my stroke; I take it in the morning and never have had a problem with it. ( I've read where some people have difficulty sleeping with GERD meds.)
