Hello all,

I haven't had much of an appetite for the last two weeks. All started with a shot to the nuts and a cancer scare. I then googled symptoms and have convinced myself I have anything from stomach cancer to colon cancer.

The Dr. doesn't think there is anything physically wrong with me, he did a CBC lab just incase (they would call if there were something irregular right?) Anyway, he placed me on Klonopin to ease my anxiety (which I don't really feel I have but he thinks the anorexia is from being scared of disease.


I gotta say the Klonopin is really making me tired. If I take it at night I can stay up till around 1 or 2 like normal but am just so tired the next day, add my next dose when I wake up and I feel like I have zero energy. i just want to sleep. This kinda makes me worry more since loss of Appetite and Fatigue are symptoms of colon cancer...so that doesn't help.

To the point now:

For those of you who are worriers, how long does it take for Klonopin (or any of the benzo types) to settle in your system long enough for you to function. My function, my ability to want to eat.

I had a previous bout of depression/axiety last year around this time and had to force myself to eat for about 2 weeks.

Will my appetite ever come back?

Benzodiazapines are generally fast acting and do not need a build up time in the body like some anxiety medications. (SSRI's for example) So you should generally feel immediate relief. However, your body could just be adjusting to the change of adding a new med...not to mention the anxiety and symptoms that you are dealing with.

Medication like Klonopin is very beneficial for anxiety and panic, but I also have to recommend coping mechanisms such as breathing and relaxation practices, meditation and of course therapy for a complete treatment plan...to feel your best and manage your anxiety!:)

I hope that everything settles for you soon and that you start to feel well again...keep us updated.

i really hated taking klonopin it just flat out made me feel gross all of the time. i say it took 2 weeks to not feel as bad but then after a couple months just crummy all around. hunger....hmmm for some reason taking benadryl makes me hungry, eating that nasty but good for you coconut oil makes me hungry, I am sorry you are dealing with this, I think it may not be the meds with your loss of appetite like you said just dealing with a lot right now I hope you can atleast start getting some broth own an get some peace as well. I always lose my appetite when anxiety strikes. I worry over nothing, make up crazy things in my head that most likely will never happen and feel guilty most of the time, again, over nothing. The thing that i have learned to do is to NOT force myself to eat if don't have an appetite. I use to freak out about it but now i start small. Eat toast or an english muffin then later maybe a banana and i try to drink a lot of water so i don't get dehydrated. I tell myself that I won't die if i don't eat 3 big meals a day and to tell you the truth i think our lives are surrounded by food/ eating out so much that we think we have to stuff ourselves all of the time when we really should be eating for nutritional purposes.

The more you worry about it the more it can spin out of control. Just take it slow and start small and eventually your appetite will come back. Good luck.. and btw, your doctor would have called if anything was wrong with your blood work. best of luck, hope this helps a bit.

May I ask what dose of Klonopin and how many dose are you taking per day ?
