ryan875,Hello and welcome to HealingWell. Phagophobia is the avoidance of swallowing foods, liquids, or pills, usually based on a fear of choking.
I would encourage you to follow up with a GI specialist to rule out the possibility of GERD as causing your choking sensation. Trouble with swallowing occurs when food does not pass normally from the mouth through the esophagus to the stomach. There may be a sensation of food sticking in the throat, chest pressure or "burning" after eating, or a feeling of choking. Difficulty swallowing could be a sign of various conditions which should be ruled out by a medical professional.
I went through a time when I had this same problem and my problem was dx as GERD.
Do keep on talking with us here in the forum.
