need some support... scared to take meds

Depression is something I've dealt with my entire life. Most recently it's taken a new twist now coupled with anxiety. I went to see a therapist today as well as a medical doctor do to my chest pains and headaches. I'm not able to see a psychiatrist until tuesday. I always start to see a dr. And I even get a prescription for depression meds but ultimately I stop taking them and i stop going to the dr after one our two times. I truly want to get better but don't know how to wmotivate myself to stick with it. The Dr today gave me a proscription for xanax. I've never taken it before and i know people use it to get loaded. So I'm scarred to take it. I want to feel better, I want to stop being anxious but, I don't want to feel high or out of it. I guess really why I've joined and why I'm typing this is because I needed to vent and i need some support. Thank you all who read this and reply

Hon, you got to use it as prescribed then it wont be a problem. Its like this, those loaders they crush it up, inhale it or take many at one time or snort it. If you just take the medication as it is written then you won't have to feel high or out of it. THink of it this way - if you don't take it as prescribed you won't get relief... you say you want relief, so take it.

I use to worry about starting my son on ADHD meds bc I thought he would just walk around spaced out all the time. After a few yrs I felt like their was nothing left to try. So I finally gave in. It took a little while for him to get use to the meds but my point is that it was nothing like what I thought or had heard. He was only in 3rd grade and it helped so much, then I was ashamed that I had let him go thru everything he had when all he needed was a med. In my experience with Xanax it makes u a little drowsy until u get use to taking it so maybe take it starting at bed time or when u know u could take a nap. Im positive it will help ur anxiety!! This is a great place to vent or get support or to just ask questions!!! Let us know how things go for u!!

Thank you both for the feed back..... I am ready to feel better. So I'm going to pick up my prescription today and try taking it first before a nap. I'll keep ya'll posted

I was just on xanax .5mg 3 times daily.. it got rid of my panic attacks and i was good to go. but only after 2.5 months they wernt strong enough and i went to the doctors and im being taken off it slowly and put on something else. they do work! take one while your at home with nothing to do to test it out, but youll be fine and happy you tried it. but be careful they are addicting but i found they wernt.
