anxiety and gerd please help

Good for you and I will be looking for you in the GERD Forum.  I have "messed up" many times in my live and some of them were major mess ups but we learn and we move on.

As a general rule, self medicating and substance abuse are an anxiety no-no...so you have been wise to avoid it.;)

And the vomiting phobia is fairly common...not a great combination to have with stomach issues, right? I feel you on this one. I have a stomach flu dread...not so much the act of vomiting, but the out of control, weak feelings that accompany it, so everytime I am nauseous I get uncomfortable.

I try telling myself that it is mostly anxiety related and if I relax I will start to feel better soon. Breathing a relaxation exercises help me with this.

Is your prescription working at all to help with the GERD? You may also want to consider asking for an anti-nausea med, for when that feeling comes on...it may not actually aid in fixing the problem...for that you need to continue the GERD treatment...but it will at least give you relief from the queasy feelings. (and the anxiety that goes along with that!)

I know that it can be awkward to keep calling the doctor's office/advice line, but remember, you pay a lot of money for coverage, and they are working for you. In big companies such as Kaiser, the squeaky wheel gets the grease...so keep advocating for you health.:)

I am pretty sure that you will find it is a combination of your anxiety and GERD...but the test results and your doctor will really be able to shed some light on this for you.

You are doing everything that you can to help yourself, so you can feel good about that and know that you'll get the answers that you need.:)

If you are still talking with the GERD group, I am sure that they can tell you what to expect from the scope. I would be a little anxious about this as well...not because I think there is a reason that you should be...I know very little about it. It is just that I understand your concerns, as I am NOT a fan of medical procedures either...so I completely empathize.

I do know that envisioning an easy, comfortable experience, with no anxious feelings will help you to get through this. When you think about it...think only good positive things, in other words, don't let your mind go into the what-if thinking, or worst case senario land!
