recurrent themes in dreams...

i know that modern psychology doesn't put a lot of stock in dream interpretation, but i've been having a recurring theme in my dreams for about 6 months now, and it's hard for me to believe that it simply doesn't mean anything...

at least 3-4 times per week, i dream that i'm a teenager living back in the home i grew up in. the details of the dream are always different, but my age and the setting recur. i moved out of this house 13 years ago when i went to college, and my family moved out of it about 10 years ago. i had lived there from the age of 3 to 18, so it really truly was the home where i grew up. i went through a sort of grief process when my family decided to move, but like i said, that was 10 years ago. as for dreaming that i'm a teenager again, i am now 31 years old, so i'm not sure why i have these recurrent themes in my dreams where i am half my age.

this theme has been popping up for about the same period of time i've been really struggling with my anxiety. maybe there is a connection there.

i just thought i'd share to see if anyone might have an outside perspective on what's going on in my noggin. :)

i really don't think my dream is about desires to build a family -- i do not want children and i have never cared about getting married. i'm perfectly happy just living with my boyfriend in a committed partnership for the past 6 years. but the aspects of myself that developed during the time i lived in that home strikes a chord. i have been feeling terribly overwhelmed by the responsibilities of adulthood, so maybe my dreams are about wishing i could be more carefree and just not have to "deal with" the hassles of being an adult. it would be nice to go back to being 16 or 17 when i had very little responsibility and had plenty of time for fun and relaxation!

when my family moved out of my childhood home, my dad moved just one town over...after i graduated from college, i couldn't find a job right away, so i moved there with him for about a year and a half. i now consider where he lives to be "home," so i don't think i have unfinished feelings about my childhood home.

i will have to consider whether i have unfinished feelings about a waking situation or outdated thinking...i am open to the notion that both are certainly plausible. :)

AHA! i just looked up "age" and found this...

"To dream that you are younger than you really are suggests that you need to be more carefree and be young at heart. Live a little!"

ding, ding, ding! i guess i was on to something in my statements above!

i must REALLY need to work on this since the dream has been happening so often for so long...
