Why does it feel like I'm dying :(

Hi everyone... I'm new to this site. I'm desperately trying to find SOMEONE ANYONE who actually understands me. I am 21, and I'm attending college right now. I suffer from extreme panic attacks. At times they are small and I can cope with them.. Other times I feel as if I'm going to die. I hve been to the ER Atleast a hand full of times and every time they say "calm down its just anxiety".


Last night I had the worst panic attack I've had in over a year. It started with a stomach ache, which quickly lead to my heart pounding, muscle spasms in my left arm, sweating, chills and resulted in me throwing up. I have had my heart checked a dozen times and it is FINE but for whatever reason I can't convince myself of that during a panic attack.

I feel as if I have no control over myself or my anxiety :( my friends and boyfriends think I'm "crazy" and "dramatic". But I know I am not alone. PLEASE HELP?????

I am sorry that you feel this way. I know its miserable when no one understands as well. Just know that unless someone has experienced anxiety they will never understand. We can't hold that against them... even though we want so badly for someone to understand what we go thru.

If you have been checked out medically then you can trust that it is just anxiety. Your symptoms sound very familiar and are all very common anxiety attack symptoms. With being in college there is extra stress I bet and stress and anxiety go hand in hand.

Have you ever taken medication for anxiety? Or gone to any therapy? It takes practice to be able to recognize anxiety when its happening.. thats where CBT therapy has helped me. I haven't taken any medication for my anxiety.. but talking with someone in person about my problems/fears and having them recognized as anxiety and being shown coping techniques has been helping me a lot. I would highly recommend looking into it. Just getting things off your chest is great.

I'm glad that you have joined here as well.....its SO helpful to connect with others who understand what we are feeling because they have either experienced it or are currently experiencing the same thing we are. The resource center on here gives tons of helpful information as well.

Just know... you are not alone in this. We all understand and will help any way we can. :)

Hi. I know exactly the feelin. Sorry ta say but with panic attacks it's mutual. I've had the same things happen ta me too. Heck some of em just today. All day. It is miserable, but u def. Are not alone. It's true too.they're are really good people and advice here. I come and chat or thread almost everyday. It helps me put things in perspective. And just knowin I'm not alone is a tremendous help. I hope u feel better soon icgirl.

JessicaMae, Welcome to HealingWell.  I'm sorry that your anxiety is so bad and really affecting you in a negative way. Do you have a therapist, if not, do you think you could try to get one? It's hard to try to deal with this on your own. Certain therapies, like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy can usually be really beneficial for GAD and other anxiety disorders Also check out our resources at the top of the page as their is info in that thread re ideas for you to try to lower your anxiety as well as a link to a free CBT Program called MoodGYM. Well dear child to us you are just real normal, I am glad you have found us, everyone here really cares,
we only want one thing for you, that you be well, if you read very many of the other posts you will find that you are in good company, real genuine people with the same problems you have, some of us have been on this wild horse for over 30 years some like you are new, just remember we are together
because no one understands except someone who has been there.

I'm 17 going on 18 and I am suffering from axiety well thats what I'm hoping it is and not anything that is so serious! every second of the day I'm worrying, feeling like I'm going to die, feel I'm loosing control and I'm just going do drop dead:/ the thought of dying is on my mind from the second i wake up till the second i go to bed! i also have a phobia of going out ive not left my house in months and when i do get too sleep sometimes i struggle because my mind wont settle i dream about things and say for example in my dream I'm out with my friend i have to go home because I think about dying outside kind of thing if you know what I mean? i panic a lot in a day like have a few amount of oanic attack but I cant seem to get the thought of dying of my mind! everyday is like a loosing battle my anxiety as resulted in having no friends left family members being sick of me but i dont no how to control it or what to do, I'm constantly feeling like im going crazy/mad or loosing control often have trouble catching my breathe and keeping focus/ concentrating also my body always ache in my arms and get back ache a lot and constantly feel dizzy:( i cant cope with anymore and so scared of every day life!! i cry ear enough 3/4 of the day, everyday! sometime thinking maybe dying is the best thing cause i wont have to go through this anymore but also am petrified of dying:'( is this normal with anxiety??

Please know that you are not alone 654Natalie. I am 30 and have been suffering with anxiety since I was 17. I also spend much of my day terrified that I am going to die. I have trouble sleeping, and experience many scary symptoms. I have been hospitalized for anxiety several times as well as have been on many different medications. Please reach out and ask for help, I would be happy to talk to you whenever you need someone as I have been exactly where you are. Some days are better than others , for example I am having a bad day today and am incredibly anxious and feel very shaky and scared. Even with my anxiety I found a wonderful husband and have 3 beautiful children so let me be the first to tell you that there is a future out there for you even with anxiety this bad. You are not alone, at all. Anxiety is extremely good at disguising itself as a physical problem. Often when I'm having a panic attack: I have severe chest pain, my heart beats out of control, I start to pass out, throw up, or convulse. It's so scary to be told it's just anxiety and it's nothing physical because you can feel the pain! Anxiety makes it so hard to trust in a doctor, but that's really something us people with anxiety need to learn to do. You may find it helpful to say, out loud, or if you're not comfortable with that just in your head, "I am fine, if I need help _________ will get it for me." That can be yourself, a friend, a parent, neighbor, anyone can fill that blank. You will not die from anxiety. You will not stop breathing even if it feels like your throat is closing. Your heart will not explode even if it feels like it could at any second. You may feel like hell, but eventually it will pass. It always does, right?

I'm sorry you're so scared, but just know many of us go through what you do. You're not crazy, you're not alone.

You aren't alone I agree. Panic attacks run in my family unfortunately. My mom had them something awful when I was growing up and although I never judged her, I just never understood UNTIL, I had my first full blown attack myself just this past week. I've had 2-3 a day for 5 days straight now. My throat has felt like its closing up at times along with the chest tightness (all the feelings of a heart attack), heart racing etc. What sucks is I think the initial attack was actually only brought on by what I would later learn, that I tore a little something in my esophagus. Which freaked me out cuz I thought initially I was going to choke. However; I honestly believe the following attacks since have been over that first attack itself. It really messes with your mind. Also if you're like me, my body has tensed up sooo much during the attacks (especially the left side-chest/left arm area) that I'm most continually feeling my muscles there aching ... which leads to my mind wandering, worrying ... in turn, turns into yet ANOTHER panic attack! It's horrible. I don't know how to end this vicious cycle! My brother is a sheriffs deputy who also started having them after he was forced into a shootout with a criminal. So he had told me in the past to immediately start doing a deep breathing regimen until ur heart rate slows to normal and the attack passes. I learned to do that fairly quick. However; depending on the intensity of the attack ... well u all know. I pray all of you get the help you can and need. I truly do! For myself as well :)
