Thyroid

Good Afternoon!

I deal with some health anxiety, but it was recently brought to my attention by a friend who has depression that sometimes a problem with your thyroid could cause the symptoms that I actually have. I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to get it checked so I am going June 3rd for a test. Not nervous about the test or anything. I am not trying to feed my health anxiety at the moment, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this that may be able to shed some light as I am avoiding going to google to do any searching. I refuse to google now because it makes my life worse. But I guess I just want to know if it a thyroid problem can really cause or aggravate already rough anxiety symptoms and make it feel like it is chronic with rarely any physical relief. I guess that is why I want the test because I have been told there are a few other things I am experiencing that could be caused by a thyroid problem.

Any help or info would be appreciated.

Thank you! I am sure they won't find anything. I do not think I have every had it checked before. So I am interested to see how this goes.

It's so amazing that you mention therapy because I believe that is exactly what got me to this point. I went to a doctor and he made a comment about my neck and asked have I ever Been tested for thyroid disease. Of course I did not know. Furthermore, I had no clue what it was. Unlike you, I searched until I became paranoid. Since then I can't stay off the computer although my blood work was normal. Now I feel a hundred other things wrong.

Thank you for the replies all! I am trying to not make unnecessary appointments for things that will just fuel my anxiety, but I do feel reassured that maybe this is something that is a good idea to get checked. Learning to trust the doctors is very difficult, but this is just something that none ever really brought up and tested. And if everything comes back normal, as it probably will, I will just take that as my final answer. :)
