I noticed you said you will be driving and then....
Does this happen at other times?
I have a phobia of driving. I've progressed through it to a degree, but I spent YEARS not driving and still live my life around where/when/how/in what conditions I will drive. I'm going to therapy now to help with it. Please don't let this scare you out of driving.
Personally, my panic attacks seem to always start with the rapid heartbeat like you're describing. I also feel like I'm shaking on the inside or having tremors or something, I know that sounds wierd. But then, I start really shaking, having difficulty breathing, concentrating, etc. Those, I think, are pretty classic panic attack symptoms.
I also experience whole days of weakness, or days where I just have to will myself to get out of bed.
The difficulty swallowing/eating is pretty common, too. Check out some of the other posts.
You're not going crazy and you're not alone.
Welcome to healing well - you're talking to people who do understand. We also understand exactly how frightening it is because your symptoms are so real that it's difficult to believe that they're caused by your emotions.
You might want to check out the "resources" listed in the first thread in the forum - there are some great things there that really help.
Peace to you!
