First of all, your doc should have never started you on the full 50 mgs. I'm taking it that that's what you started on since you said he told you to take a half tab (25 mg).

Usually they start you on the lowest dose and then work your way up from there. In my case, when I took it, all 4 times I started at half of a 25 mg tab, which would be 12.5 mgs. for 2 weeks then up to 25 for two weeks and so on.

That being said, when you start any SSRI you will have some increase in anxiety and panic for a few weeks (2-3) until your body adjusts to the med. So good thing he gave you the xanax to counter those side effects. Don't be afraid to use it when you feel you need to. You have to remember that the Zoloft is trying to straighten out a chemical imbalance in your brain that is causing the anxiety in the first place.

Rest easy, and know that these side effects will subside within a few weeks. And just a reminder here.... every time you increase the dosage, you might get a little of those side effects back, but they're usually not a strong as the initial dose.

I just got back on it after quitting about 10 months ago. My doc said 50mg was a high dose to start on told me first week to break it in half . I did notice some bad anxiety the first two nights, I took a xanax and it fixed it. That has gone away and it seems to be working. I wish I would have read Fox7's post before I started it again. I could have been ready for the panic. Oh well better late than never.
