I'm just starting my 4th week on 100mg zoloft for anxiety. It cut my anxiety in half but it was still there but in the last week it's starting to creep back and today is bad.

Do I need to see my dr about an increase ?

I did 25mg for 2 day 50 my for 4 days and now starting 4 weeks on 100mg.

My anxiety was severe with multiple panic attacks daily, I haven't had a panic attack since the zoloft either.

Hi Ninlow,

Did your doctor mention bumping up beyond the 100mgs you are currently on? Was there ever a top level that you discussed?

I think the best thing to do is to wait it out until you can talk with your prescribing doc.

Until, then use some coping skills such as breathing and relaxation exercises to deal with the breakthrough anxiety. (see our Resources if you need ideas/instruction for self-help)

Spoke to my Dr today.

She said 3 weeks and 4 days on 100mg I should feel full effects by now?

And also being that I'm thin she doesn't feel comfortable increasing it as higher doses are for depression not anxiety?

Mind you she read this off what ever fact sheet she had on the computer :(

Zoloft has definitely helped I'd say about 80% so far no panic attacks or the nausea I used to get. Just waves of not feeling right?

If you are feeling some improvement, then that it a good sign, and step in the right direction.

No medication is going to eliminate the anxiety 100%.

What coping skills if any do you use? If you don't already do any...then again I recommend taking a look into our Resources here and learing some.:)

I would try this and give it another week.

Hang in there, and keep posting if you find it helpful.

Are you on Buspar? If not, she should definitely add it. Talk to her about it.

No SC i havent been doing any coping skills, i have my first psychiatrist app this month. But i will have a look at the resources. Its the obsessive thoughts that are draining me atm.

Janet what is Buspar? Is it any good? are there side effects?

Good to hear that you have an appointment! You may want to inquire in regards to therapy. Some p-docs do this themselves, while other refer to a therapist that they work alongside of.

There are some downloads in the Resources that have some OCD worksheets that may help with the intrusive thoughts.

Therapy has helped me a lot with obsessive thoughts - much, much more than medication alone was helping. Just a thought.

Your Psychiatrist will have a better understanding of what you need medicine wise, I'm sure. That may be one of the reasons your doctor is reluctant to change your medicine. Weaning and beginning a new one would be unnecessary trauma, if your pdoc changes it again. I'm waiting for my first pdoc appt, too and that's one of the specific reasons my PCP has referred me there. I'm on as much medicine as she is allowed to prescribe in my state and my anxiety is still visible, stats still stupid high when they take them at the office.

Best of luck to you - you'll get there, it just takes a little while. In the meantime, we're here to support you!

Sorry so slow to get back to you!
you asked about Buspar. You can GOOGLE it for more info, but BuSpar (buspirone) is an anti-anxiety medicine that affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.

BuSpar is used to treat symptoms of anxiety, such as fear, tension, irritability, dizziness, pounding heartbeat, and other physical symptoms.
It is NOT like taking Xanax or Valium. It does not make the anxiety go away in one swoop like they do. It has to build up in your system. I've been on it for many years now and haven't personally had any problems with it. anyhow, look it up and read about it and talk to your doctor to see if it is for you! :)

Ninlow, I'm kindof in the same boat as you. I hope that you will get the information and relief that you deserve!! Is Buspar the same as wellbutrin?? My pharmacist actually recommended augmenting with that. My thoughts are obsessing as well, about never regaining my life. We can get through this!!!!!

Buspar is nothing like Wellbutrin. It is not an antidepressant. Wellbutrin did not agree with me at all! UGH!!!! Please research it.
