Does anyone else have bouts of really severe dizziness for no apparantly reason? I get dizzy then my heart races (which I know is me panicking) then it settles. This can happen a few times a day and last for a few days then disappears again!!!! I don't pass out but I feel like I'm going to! Xxx

Hi Ckb,

Yes, I struggle with this symptom periodically...I really don't like it! It is scary, and I struggled with learning how to handle it without getting more anxious.

I have found that if I can start breathing exercises right away, and accept that this is a regular symptom for me...it will pass if I use my coping skills.

We have breathing exercise instructions in our Resources, or I can post my go-to favorite for you at your request.:)

Thank scaredy cat. I just begin to accept its just my anxiety and I'm not going to keel over from heart failure then something else happens!!! This feeling is awful. I completely lose my balance temporarily too. I have been much better today thank you. Such a frustrating illness isn't it??? Just as I feel I have a hold on it and feel better, it decides to give me a hard kick just to let me know its in charge!!! I will beat it one day! Thank you for your reassurance. This site really helps xxx

Ok, i need some help here. I was diagnosed 12 years ago with severe anxiety/ panick attacks. My dr put me on zoloft which seemed to help. I had an off balance feeling an bad headaches. Now here i am years later an its happening again. I havent been on my zoloft. Im going for bloodwork tomorrow to rule out anything serious. I make myself crazy over this as its affecting my everyday life with my kids. I cant take it anymore an everyone i try to explain it too thinks im nuts. Does anyone else get this ? Is it anxiety related? Please help !!

Hi FS and welcome,

How long have you been off of medication? Did you wean off after deciding that you felt better and just wanted to try to be med free?

You're wise to go to the doctor again, not only to get a check-up, but to discuss your options with how to proceed in treating the likely reason for the way you are feeling...recurring anxiety.

You may want to talk to your doctor about a combination of therapy and medication to help you to manage the issues that are currently bothering you.

Self help is also a great way to relieve stress and symptoms. We have a lot of great ideas in our Resources (main page, 1st post) if you'd like to get some tools for decompressing.

Keep posting with us if you find it helpful. We have found that support is a key part in recovery!

Hi, thanks for responding. Yes i stopped my meds for a couple months because i wanted to see if i could be without the meds. Im a very stressed person. Dealing with alot right now. I tend to worry about every little thing. I keep thinking theres gotta be something wrong with me. Its hard to believe anxiety can cause this , its like im just got off an elevator when i walk around. Some days are not as bad but then theres days its worse. I just wanna feel like me again. Im praying my bloodwork comes back fine. Very scared. :(

I’m not a medical professional but it sounds to me like your dizziness is caused by anxiety induced over-breathing (Hyperventilation). Such excessive breathing can very often cause all kinds of strange physical symptoms that, as I understand it, are the result of low levels of carbon dioxide in the blood.

When I catch myself over-breathing and feeling lightheaded I make a conscious effort to slow my breathing down. In fact, some people try breathing into a paper bag.
