Hi Thatguy and welcome!
I am sorry to hear of your anxiety and panic attacks...I know how truly miserable this can make you feel. The good news is that you are taking the great first steps to your recovery!
Good job on talking with your doctor, and getting a diagnoses and treatment plan. Did you discuss therapy while you were there? If you are not sure about wanting to take the Rx that you were prescribed, then this might be what you would want to pursue first.
I did this. I was given a script from my doctor, as well as a therapy referral. I decided to give the therapy a try first, see how things went...and then if I needed to, I would get my medication filled.
I never ended up starting the medication, as for me, the therapy was sufficient. (along with self-help and being part of HW.)
We have some great self-help ideas (such as the ones I used) in our Resources here (main page, 1st post) You will find links and videos for informative articles teaching breathing and relaxation exercises. There are book recommendations (really a great treatment option!) and more! Take a look and you could get started today.:)
Call your docotr about a therapy referral. Doctors network with other professionals, and you could get a great lead for a therapist this way. If that isn't an option, looking on your own, or through your insurance provider may be the way to go.
Keep posting with us as well. We are here to support you through this journey. We are all in different stages in our recovery...but share a common bond and are glad to have you join us.
Talk to you soon,
Scaredy Cat
