OK, so this is only anecdotal evidence from my own personal experience, but I believe I am going through Vistaril withdrawal right now.

It could be panic attacks, but continuous panic attacks?
And it could be that I'm just seeing the comparison to Acute Alcohol Withdrawal because I have been through the latter.

What if previous addictions predisposes you to Vistaril addiction?

But, try to stop taking 4 50mg dose of the medication has been tough for me.

Right now, I'm shaking and have a miserable headache.

Over the next two days I will taper down this dose and see if this subsides.

Good Evening,  I am glad to see you started a new thread as this way current members will see your thread and lend you a helping hand.

Vistaril is an antihistamine with mild sedating and anxiety-relieving effects. It doesn't work the same as a benzodiazepine (Valium, Ativan ETC), but then it's not addictive either. Some people get a lot of relief from Vistaril and similar meds; some don't. Talk to your doctor about what works for you and what doesn't. There may be other options to explore.

For symptomatic relief of anxiety, Vistaril may be prescribed as noted below:

Vistaril 50-100 mg PO divided q6hr as needed. 

You posted you are taking 4 50mg doses which equals 200mg but in what time frame are you using this much of the medication?

I agree with talking to your Dr. about wean off of this med if it is causing you problems similar to withdrawal sx.

Yes Ive notice when I don't take vistril&I have it for 3xs a day I feel bad&sometimes real bad,when my dr says thats all they use because ppl don't get hook on xanax&ativan that a lie to me. A person should be wean off this med most of all under dr care best of luck to you,and I hope you feel much better soon.

I had to slowly reduce the frequency of my Vistiril doses until I could stop taking it entirely.
Whether the drug is addictive or it only potentates panic attacks when withdrawn is a moot point for me.
There are obvious negative side effects to the discontinuation of this drug.

Oh, and thanks Kitt,
Even though this distress occurred over a weekend, I had enough sense to start a slow weaning period.
After about three days I was fine.
And I may consider resumption of this medication at lower daily doses.
