I was one of the very first people to take Prozac. I was in a batch of people when human trials were approved, so I'm a first generation Prozac gal.
I am so thankful for Prozac! I was on it for many years when I made the first of a few attempts at going off of the med. (It was because of my illogical association of being on a psych med, feeling embarrassed if anyone found out, afraid of how I'd be labeled).
My doc titrated me off,....each time.
And each time, I regretted the decision.
It was my wonderful Husband who finally cornered me and said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it, woman!" He could see the difference in me.
You do not have to worry in the least about the Prozac "wearing off" at night. (BTW: I take 40mg/day). Just take your med as directed at the same time each day. This medication is not like an instant release or short acting med. It takes weeks to build up and for your blood level to be established.
After a few weeks, your doctor may (as mine did), adjust the dose accordingly, for you, personally.
I will echo, however, as wonderful as Prozac has been for me, it is not a magic bullet and I'd strongly encourage you to encompass not only therapy with another person and/or group therapy, but the self-help guides in the Resources section.
I use a metronome set to 60bpm and to me, psychologically, I imagine slowing my heart rate down if it's racing, focusing on the deliberate act of breathing, and get in touch with your body.
Distract that nasty ole anxiety and tell it who's boss!!
