Zoloft build up side effects for How long?

Hi!

I'm on day 8 of Zoloft 50mg
Starting day 4, I began to have increased panic …and more severe. By Sunday, I was half out of my mind. On Monday, I called the psychiatrist. He said it would be one more week of this at least. I asked for Xanax, but he said No.

Thankfully, my husband gets Xanax. I took one yesterday AM and PM. It really helped me.

Today I took Xanax again, because I was in a panic an hour after I woke up.

Does anyone know How long this increased panic is supposed to last?

Unfortunately when you first start taking any med, you seem to get worse before you get better. Your body is trying to adjust to the med. Give it another week and see how you are doing. Zoloft is a very good drug - I was on it for over l0 years. Don't throw in the towel yet.

Thank you! I hope it works for me. I was on Effexor for a while, but I didn't have these particular side effects. It's a little scary.

I'm glad you had a positive experience. I hope mine is the same. Thanks again!

Hi

Good to meet you. I have been on many AD over the years and it can be difficult changing meds until your body gets used to the new medication which can take anywhere unto 2-4 weeks and then you should find the side effects decrease to a more manageable level. I am not a doctor so just speaking from my personal experience with these types of medications. Stick with it and keep posting we are here to help.
