Today I had my first appointment with my psychologist. After discussing my almost 5 weeks of pure hell on Zoloft he wanted me to stop taking it ASAP. He wants me to go back to my old friend Lexapro!! I was previously on 20 mg Lexapro from October of 2008 until my 100 mg Zoloft switch December 12th. The reason for the switch in the first place was I was starting to feel anxious all day (never full attacks) the last few months I was on it. My OBGYN and oncologist (cervical cancer last year) thought I needed to change.
Now I know everyone is different BUT Zoloft was total hell! On Zoloft:
I felt trapped in my body
Horrible nausea (was prescribed Zofran to counter)
Lost appetite, resulted in 10 lb weight loss
Tired all the time
Severe depression spells
Constantly felt down
Severe Anxiety
Panic Attacks
Easily annoyed and stressed (imagine that when you have a 4 year old and 18 month old)
Felt like I was losing control
Lexapro on the other hand was a MIRACLE drug for me! Was exhausted and had foggy head for a week. By week 2 anxiety attacks were gone and I was loving and living life again!
We did try titration with the Zoloft over the weekend and it was impossible. I thought for sure I was going to die. The worst anxiety/panic attacks I have ever had. They replaced my 1 mg Ativan with 5 mg Valium (which did NOTHING) finally I went back to my Ativan I was so far gone that it couldn't even calm me. I ended up going back to the 100 mg dose of Zoloft. Because of that we are going straight from 100 mg of Zoloft to 20 mg Lexapro.
Anyone else done this kind of switch? (original med to new med then back to original med)
Psychologist says since I have had a 5 week break that the reasons why I stopped Lexapro in the first place wont be an issue now.
Would love to hear similar stories and how it worked out, advice on dealing with the switch....
Im just really hopeful that since it worked a miracle for me the first time it will do it for me again. Really hope I am not setting myself up for disappointment :( I cant handle much more of this!
