Hello all,

So for the last month I have been feeling somewhat like the old me with fairly low anxiety and not one panic attack which has been pretty nice.

Now onto this morning I woke up with my heart racing extremely fast and feeling pretty unwell overall with some mild chest pain. I got out or bed and started dry heaving and had two instances where I vomited a clear white substance. Then I started thinking that it has been almost a year since I had all my blood Tests, the ekg and 24 hour holter, that triggered the thought that I always hear you should have your heart checkup once a year so maybe my heart health has taken a turn for the worse since I am feeling so poor.

Fast forward an hour and I am still experiencing a racing heart and feeling very sick and for the first time in close to a month fearing that I will drop dead from either a heart attack or sudden cardiac death. I am really scared tht this could be the day my heart gives up

Sorry to hear you woke up ill.  Perhaps it would be best for you to check in with your Dr. or call the triage nurse at the clinic as you may need to be seen.

HW should never take the place of the assessment by a Dr.

You have are full support as always.

I just don't know how to differentiate between my normal cardiophobia and a real problem I don't want to waste people's time either

Warning signs of a heart attack:

 

  • Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

    • Call and check in with your Dr. or if you feel you are having a heart attack seek emergency care.

    Do I think you are having a problem with your heart - it is not up to me to think yes or no but to advice you to call or present yourself.

    If it turns out to be anxiety - no foul...................

    Hi SK.,

    I am sorry that you are having such a bad morning. I know the fear that you are experiencing, and it is brutal.

    The symptoms lead to anxious thoughts, which lead to more symptoms and fear, in a seemingly never ending cycle.


    I hope that you got the answers that you need, and that all is well for you currenlty.

    My personal advice would be, as always, go to the GP for some reassurance however please bear in mind that the body is capable of some incredibly weird and wonderful things. Your symptoms suggest that you are caught in the unenviable cycle of symptom > fear > symptom > fear, and every time round the sensations get more and more unsettling.

    If your GP does tell you that there is no underlying medical issue, then try not to worry too much about the mild chest pains. Once the medical people have told you it's OK, there can still be muscular pains caused by the anxiety. They are harmless. When you feel them, remind yourself of your positive visit to the doctor.
