I have major anxiety right now. I have my disability hearing on Wednesday. My lawyer is just now getting doctor forms which has me aggravated. They told me Friday they sent a Q and A form to my therapist and she is supposed to go over it with me tomorrow. The narrative report from my pain dr is probably my strongest defense. I just know I have read a lot of people getting denied with real bad problems. I really need this. We are barely hanging on financially which is causing even more anxiety. Thanks for listening.

I know EXACTLY how you are feeling!!! I went through the same thing way back in 1993. I was so anxious that I had my Dad call and try to get the hearing moved down, but they wouldn't. I was so anxious that I didn't even use a lawyer! But anyway, I did get approved thankfully! No matter what, if you get turned down, you MUST keep trying and trying!
When I went for my hearing, I was very respectful. I spoke when spoken to and answered the judge's questions as openly and honestly as I could. Do not try to "play" him. I'm not saying that in the sense that you are faking ANYTHING, but if anything comes across as false to him, it might cast doubt on your whole case. In other words, what I'm trying to say is, do not be anything but your true self! If you are feeling bad that day, say an "8" on a scale of 1 to 10, be an "8", not a "10".
I know that I was very blessed to win my case the first time that I went before a law judge. But you have a lawyer and he/she likely would not have taken your case if they didn't think you have a chance. But like I said, IF you do not win this time, DO NOT GIVE UP! That's the way the system works sometimes. If you give up, they presume that you really must not have needed it that bad in the first place. :( They are SO wrong, I know! My doctor back at the time I was trying for mine told me he had seen ones get it that didn't need it as bad as ones that did and vice versa. Just sad.
Hang in there. It's rough, but you WILL get through this!

I also know how scary this feels. I put off filing for disability for ages because....I was afraid of all this (and more).

Be prepared. Your lawyer is there to help you. (I'd have been lost in limbo without mine).

It's not uncommon to be denied the first time around. Doesn't always happen, but sometimes.

I also tried to do this on my own at first, and 2 years later,....I couldn't make heads or tails of what to do. That's when I hired a law firm.

Exactly, just be honest, be sincere and polite and direct, and let your lawyer do what he's hired for, which is to work for you and protect you!

I was denied because I dont have a long work record. Well I don't have a long work record because of my depression/anxiety and panic attacks.

No matter what, if you get turned down, you MUST keep trying and trying! That was great advice. I have several friends that would say the same thing.  Often people are turned down on the first try so prepare yourself for that.

Be sure to keep in close contact with your Dr. so the documentation is available re your history.

Thank you all for your support and advice. I do plan on being honest. .My last psychiatrist wouldn't fill out the Q and A said he did not feel qualified. He was a state doctor. Now I have medicaid and go to regular therapist and med nurse.Will let you know how it goes tomorrow with my therapist. Thanks again

Therapist filled out Q and A which helped a lot also. Over all I think it went pretty well. the judge asked the job person about jobs where i could alternate between sitting and standing(back issues) she said yes they were available. the lawyer asked if that would involve bending and she said yes my paper work from pain dr says no bending. then the lawyer asked about jobs where i would miss a lot of work and was not able to keep good relations with coworker and she said there was none. my therapist put definite problems in that area. now to wait for 30 -45 days from what the lawyer said. wish me luck

Wishing you lots of luck, quick resolution in your favor...and continued healing!

Great job on being pro-active and taking the steps that you need for yourself to get better.

Do you have plans for continuing your anxiety managment treatments? What have you tried and found helpful so far?

I currently am taking 300 mg effexor and .5 mg ativan 3 times a day and go to therapy 1 week. i see a new med nurse on the 29th which i am glad of. did not like last one at all she did not listen. when i told her i slept all day and was still depressed she said well effexor is a good med and should work for you and i want to see you smiling next time you are in here.hopefully this new med nurse will do better.

This is a miracle solution for my adrenal overload related anxiety...take at once: 2 teaspoons Vitamin C powder mixed with water, 400 mgs of Magnesium Glycinate and 400 mgs Ashwaganda herb. If my heart is palpitating, I add 1 teaspoon SEA salt mixed in water. Also, breathing in through the nose and out (with a big sigh) through the mouth.
