Living in New England, and a good deal of time on the Cape, (and having dogs), we get ticks constantly, so I can understand the concern.
I'll just say that in my personal experience, I've never heard of a doctor prophylactically rx'ing abx in this type of situation. I'm just saying it's new to me personally.
And "just a month" for a course of abx? Are you high risk or something for some reason? Whether we take them for 10 days or however long (a month is an odd time frame,...but hey, disclaimer, I'm not a doc and have never been in this position you find yourself in)....the point is every time we take an abx, we make it harder and harder down the road for *any* abx to be able to work effectively, and we become resistant.
They need to be rx and taken with extreme prejudice.
My personal non-medical $0.02.
