I'm 19 mostly african American quarter Hispanic, my hemoglobin is 13.9 and my wbc is 3.3, when I phoned the lab, they told me everything looked good an they wish their numbers looked like mine so I'm confused,...and I went to the doctor freaking out over leukemia and this has actually made it worse, but surely if they saw anything pointing to leukemia they would've had me In there ASAP? I don't know my other numbers but I'm really in total shock right now because nothing is good about a wbc that low.....and idk if the lab it was sent to measures in billions because if so then my numbers aren't that low, mayo clinic says normal range is 3.5 - 10.?? Something, so they said it was only slightly low....so I'm guessing that's the values they use? Also I heard Afro Americans tend to run lower wbc? Please help

Hi Jgsoccer, if the lab said your numbers are fine then heck that's good. If you had a blood disease it would be like 1.0

Why are they not concerned about the low wbc???

I run a little lowerin the WBC's consistently as well...I have for years

You can't take just one low reading out of the big picture and worry that it is slightly out of range.

What the medical professionals who read these results are looking for are specific combinations of numbers that are indicative of an issue of concern.

If you are really worried about it, you can request a re-test in six months to see if anything has changed.

Otherwise, be assured that your results are normal! :)

Thanks so I can continue to play soccer and do things that I love?? They put me on 10 MG lexapro and 25 mg xanax

If your combinations of numbers had been a red flag for leukemia, your doctor would have let you know.

Like I mentioned, I run low in the WBC #'s as well...I have for years...but I don't have the other factors that are indicative for disease...the other numbers that would be out of range in combination with the WBC's to cause worry.

Your CBC result is a picture as a whole....with all of the components together that counts. Not one # that is not a 'perfect score' that you need to be concerned about.

JG, I would be more concerned about leukemia if my wbc count
was in the higher than normal range, this normally means you
body is fighting something. "I think you need to play ball".

Hello there!

Lukemia would have showed up in your blood tests by more than just one of the results...So please, you are fine, and just relax. Its ok. Forgive yourself for being afraid. Believe me, we ALL get that way! Take good care of yourself and enjoy your life. Sending you love and blessings~!
