Need advice because this causes me anxiety.

Every three months a home care nurse visits our house to check on my disabled son. It used to be a variety of nurses so I really never knew who it was going to be that day. The nurse would come in, check his heart, pulse, you know regular vitals, ask him how hes doing then write a few notes, then leave. It would all take maybe 15 minutes tops. But for awhile now it has been the same nurse and this nurse stays here and does her paper work and I watch 45 minutes of my time waste away. She always wants to talk about her family etc, I just want her to leave so I can go on with my life. This causes me so much anxiety anticipating her coming, which is today. I'm a nice person so I don't want to tell her to just leave already, what do I do? UGH

I have tried that and she still doesn't leave.

I can understand how it feels. She just feels like she needs to do some small talk maybe. You can just say you are going to go out and need to catch your appointment time, or something like that. Maybe works?

I understand, and have simialr feelings about people being at my house (besides family and friends/guests)

I get a low level anxiety feeling of not being able to relax/be myself...and I end up with this sense of 'obligation' (for lack of a better description) to the person there...

For me, this is not an ongoing issue...it only happens when, say, I have an electrition or other worker doing a repair around the house...

...but I can understand your concern with it happening regularly.

If you have tried to politely hint at the fact that you do not wish to 'host' her paperwork time...you may need to be more upfront and tell her that 15-20 min is all the time that she has allowed to spend in your home.

If she does not take that cue, you may need to call her company's supervisor. Keep in mind however that this could cause some awkward future encounters...

In the end, you may just need to retreat to a personal space, smile and say "I am sure you can see yourself out...see you next time."

I hope that you can come to an easy resolution to this issue...one that is comfortable for everyone.:)

Well she stayed for 1 hour, it's because she started telling me about her husbands anxiety problems and his fear of having a heart problem.  She acted like her husband is such a baby for being so panicky and depressed all the time. Sad,

My MIL actually enjoys this aspect of the visits more than the actual work being done. For her, it's a chance to socialize.

It's possible that she's used to dealing with people in this situation (as my MIL's that is) and has just become comfortable, at the expense of you and perhaps others, because she's more accustomed to others?

I was a visitting nurse before I retired 2 yrs ago. I can tell you that the agencies now encourage nurses to do their paper/computer work in the home before they leave for their next visit. Nurses are bombarded with all kinds of documentation and the agencies choose to deal with it this way. This was one of the reasons I retired. I found it very intrusive to sit there while I did my work. You should contact the agency and make your wishes known. You are the client. This is not an unreasonable request.
