I sometimes has trouble with that. It used to scare me quite a bit but I'll tell you how I got over it.. When I was fit and healthy I used a heart rate monitor for exercise. After a while of putting up with a pounding heart I decided to wear it to see just how high my pulse really was. The first thing it noticed was that it wasn't really as fast as it seemed. Even if it was I was able to see how my reaction to it affected it directly. I noticed quickly that the more nervous I was about
it, the higher the number would climb. I learned to sit and just relax my muscles, slow my breathing and wait to see how that would change my pulse. I quickly realized that the calmer I allowed myself to be the slower my pulse would become. At this point it clicked it my head that my own worry was the cause, not the effect of my pounding heart and that knowledge allowed me to relax. Since I did this weeks ago I have felt much calmer, and my average resting heart rate has gone down around 10 beats per minute. I think that it's very reassuring to see that you have more control over your body and it's reactions than you think. I suggest giving it a try! If you don't have a monitor there are free smart phone apps that take your pulse through your phones camera that would work as well. Good luck!
